Topic: RE: Gastric Sleeve
I had many other health issues also at the time.  Dr. Stickler reversed my colostomy and repaired a basketball size hernia at the same time he did the vertical sleeve.  I was in surgery almost 8 hours.  I did well, even with all of that.  My biggest problem seemed to be getting dehydrated.  You can only drink small amounts and I guess I just didn't get enough fluids in.  I had to go in and get IV fluids twice.  I had to eat small amounts very, very slowly.  That was hard to get use to.  Drinking vey small amounts was tough too.  As far as pain goes, it wasn't bad.  He did it all laprascopic.  The weight came off pretty quickly.  If you have any questions, please let me know.  Good luck!

Unfortunately I have to cancel tomorrow's support group meeting due to a stomach bug that my family is sharing right now.  I will post a new date soon.  Thank you to those that had committed to come. I promise to get it scheduled again soon.

Jana,

What you are feeling is normal.  We have been programed for so long the same way that it is difficult to see us change.  But it will change for you. You will give it your all to make this life altering change for the sake of your health.

I made sure to take monthly pictures to see the difference because the brain sometimes takes a long time to catch up with your body.  I measured my body and took monthly measurements. The scale, measurements and pictures did not lie!

Trust me when you finally see the difference you will be jumping for joy.  Please take the time to read through my profile and see the pics that are posted in my albums and throughout my blogging.

Take care,

Come on everyone I do this to encourage everyone. Why don't you share yours with us. If not then please post on the forum so we can support eachother.  I hope everyone is having a great day so far!

My affirmations for today are:

Exercise is fun and gives me energy. I create many opportunities to exercise and move my body.

I easily maintain a positive and healthy way of eating.

I have to focus on that second one since Tara baked brownies and I need to avoid that when i walk into my kitchen!  lol

Have a POSITIVE day everyone.

I'm 1 month and 2 days post op and still have that feeling for some reason.  I can't say I was comfortable with myself before but resigned maybe.  I'm loosing weight but I still have this fear that it will stop and I'll still be fat after going through all this.  My dr assured me yesterday that if I eat healthy and exercise the rest takes care of itself.  Today was my first day exercising and I was surprised to see that even after lunch my weight was down still.  I weigh myself way to often  LOL.  I think I feel this way because most people tell us things like you could loose if you tried or that we are taking the easy way out.  Well it isn't as easy as it looks and I am learning every day that I can do this, I will not fail, I refuse to fail

Sometimes we just get to complacent with things.  Now I'm obsessed with good heath and being thi

If you drink any pop.. quit drinking them now even diet soda, stop eating sugar and use a sugar substitute, start drinking a protein drink a day maybe at lunch to raise your protein to get you ready for surgery. A good amount of protein helps your healing process after surgery.  Learn to drink slowly since after surgery you will not be able to gulp for a while. Do portion control, eat protein first, veggies then fruit.  Start cutting down your fat intake and carb intake.

Drink lots of water and sugar free drinks for example crystal light I prefer the walmart brand great value they are great 0 calories 0 sugars.  Remember to eat slowly and chew all your food really good before swallowing. Take your time eatine for example take about 20 to 30 minutes to finish your food. Practice drinking fluids up to 30 minutes before eating and then resume drinking 30 minutes after your meals. If you start doing all that now you will know what is to be expected after surgery.

If you have any questions please ask away. That is what we are here for.

Best of luck sweetie. You are definitely on your way to becoming a loser.

Okay so I just need to get something out here. It's been on my mind the last few weeks.
As the time grows near and the days go by and I get closer and closer to the end of my 6 months, I keep on thinking that I have one fear. I have a fear that I am not going to be the same after this surgery. I have been heavy for so long that I have been almost used to being this way.almost comfortable. as crazy as that is. I know I am making the right choice. I am so looking forward to doing new things. Has anyone else felt this way? I know this is crazy thoughts.

Thanks for the feedback

Jana
