Topic: RE: I've got a date!!!
Jana, you're much younger than I. I'm twice your age!! Therefore I had a lot more years to go over in my head while answering those questions. Trying to remember things like my body image at different ages thru my life. Those types of questions won't be as time-consuming for you. Please don't worry about it. None of it was hard but for me I hadn't stopped to think about a lot of it for many years. You'll do fine and it won't take as long for you. Please don't be concerned. Hugs, Pat
Topic: How do I get started?
I have an appointment with my regular Dr. on 3-16 and I want to bring up the idea of the surgery but I dont want to look clueless. I have WV medical card and am hoping that I will be approved but seeing other post on here I'm getting a little discouraged already. I am 29 weigh 260 and I am 5'7. My BMI is 40.7 which puts me in the "extremly obese" catogory. I dont have any other "medical conditions" as of now except vericose vains in my legs. Both of my parents are diabetics and both have a brother that are also. On my second pregnancy I was boarderline preclampsia (which from what I understand means I will be a diabetic in the future?) I do have back pains and I have a hard time standing for a long time and I have depression (which I believe has to do with the weight) What should I say to my Dr.? Does anyone think I might have a chance to get the surgery done. (I am leaning toward a bypass, but still gathering info on both if anyone has any advice!)
I was looking at before and after picturs and just started crying. I want that to be me so bad. Years ago I use to be a size 8/10 but in 3 yrs I gained over 100 lbs. I have tried diets but I can never get the "full" feeling. I want to be able to play with my 8 yr old and 2 yr old on the playground. I want to be able to look at my old classmates in the face when I see them instead of dodging them in the store.
Is there any hints of what should be said and not said to the Dr. What kind of waiting period is there (do I have to record weight management and mental health eval?) I just want this so bad, I'm afraid I'm going to mess something up. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Melinda.

thank you so very much, what insurance did you have if I might ask? I have WV Medicaid TR the best they have, but seem to have to keep doing things.

Don't give up!!!!!!!! It will come through, after all my mess I found out that my plan doesn't even require pre approval, I could have done this 3 months ago. Your time will come, I promise.
What would you attempt,if you knew you could not fail?

Thanks for the information Pat... It seems like things are happening so fast now. I know it will be here before I know it. Is it stressful? Just hearing about all those questions I have to answer seems like it would be stressful. I am very anxious.
Thanks
Jana

Thanks, Jana! I truly appreciate your comments. I checked out your profile for an update. Congratulations on the weight loss! FYI ... regarding the long day meeting the psych and nut ... I met with the nut for about 45 minutes then was with the psych from 10 am - 3:00 pm. They put you in a room to answer a ton of questions (on paper). Then she took me back and talked for a little over an hour. Then back to the room to finish the papers. The last sheet had a total of about 570 questions. It was one where you fill in the circle for your answer. They told me I could leave for lunch and come back to finish but I just wanted to get it all done. Also, you have to pay to park anyway. Be sure to take a protein bar with you as well as bottled water to drink as the only thing there is a drinking fountain in the hallway near the elevators. Of course, you can go to the cafeteria. Best of luck!! - Hugs, Pat

Thanks, Karen! I truly believe that this is part of God's plan for me. My doctor (PCP) was very much in support of this - in fact, it was his idea. I, also, have prayed every step of the way and know that He is with me. Thanks for the encouraging words, Karen. By your numbers you are doing very well. Congratulations!! - Hugs, Pat
