Hi Cira, just wanted ya to know you aren't alone.  I thought there would be more ppl in the WV forum.  When I was here last year there were many more.  That's what I get for leaving for a while...I just went back to my Dr. to start back to getting ready to have my surgery again.  I have to have the psych exam in May then the surgery will follow.  I am excited and nervous too.  I'm doing lapband.  What did you do?

Hi everyone!

The Beckley
WLS Support Group meeting will be held on Monday, February 9, from 7:00-9:00pm at RaleighGeneralHospital on Harper Road, Beckley. Guests are welcome and everyone is encouraged to attend! We will meet in room "B" in the new EducationCenter (located on the Kroger-side of the hospital towards the rear of the lot). You will see a wheelchair ramp and some steps leading to a glass door. There is parking to the rear of the building, as well as in the main parking lot.

This month:  Special guest speaker - Dr. Robert Shin, head of bariatric surgery at CAMC, will speak to the group about the lap band.  He will also discuss other issues concerning all weight loss surgery patients.

Restaurant cards for Dr. Shin and Dr. Stickler's patients (as well as some other area doctors) will be available for anyone who needs one. If you need a card for a specific doctor, please email me with your doctor's name, address and telephone number.

Clothing Exchanges:  You are welcome to bring any clothes that no longer fit you to give to others that might be able to use them. You do not have to bring clothing to take clothing, and bringing clothing is not required.

You can view our monthly calendar by visiting our support group website at http://www.geocities.com/beckleywlssg/ 2008 meeting dates are also listed below.

Looking forward to seeing you Monday!

Beth

I haven't posted my daily affirmations due to not having much time to come and post. But I didn't want to leave today without sharing them with you all.

I hope that everyone has a pleasant and positive day.

My affirmations:

I experience continuous opportunity for joy and play in my life.

The light I send to others comes back to me multiplied.

I am who I am and accept my feelings wholeheartedly.
Those that mind don't matter, and those that matter don't mind.

Topic: RE: Problems Eating (After Surgery)
Hi there,
I am sorry you are having a problem with eating.  Maybe you are having reflu problems that is one of the side affects with having the band.  I would suggest that you post on the lapband forum here on OH and maybe someone that has gone through the same thing will post to you and you can go back to your surgeon and discuss about further ways to figure out the problem.

I hope they find a solution to your problem soon. I know it has got to be so frustrating and it sound awful.

((((hugs))))

Topic: Problems Eating (After Surgery)
I had my surgery back in the middle of November.  I didn't have any problems eating anything until the beginning of January.  Now, I have problems with all kinds of foods:  bread, meat, salad, apples, bananas, etc.  Lots of times, what I eat comes right back up.  I told my doctor and nutritionist; their only response was to take smaller bites and eat more slowly.  Well, that isn't helping.

Remember when you were a kid and would take a big ol' gulp of root beer or Dr. Pepper?  Then you'd have to belch really big and loud?  Well, it feels like I have to belch like that, but that the food has sealed it off and won't let the air bubble come up.  I get little, teeny, tiny burps up, and then usually food.

Anyone else have this problem?  Can it be fixed?

Not everyone has to lose weight before surgery. it all depends on how much you weigh. Most of overweight people have a fatty liver so the doctor will ask a patient to lose a certain percentage of their wieght to help reduce the fat in the liver to make the surgery easier. It is really hard to perform weight loss surgery when the heaviest organ of your body is taking most of the space making it difficult for the doctor.

Also the insurance and doctor needs to know if you are willing to make all the necessary changes for this life altering change.

So keep me posted on everything ok.
Take care & best wishes!

Oh.  I see.   I always wondered why people had to lose weight before the surgery.
