Topic: WLS w/ PEIA
I have PEIA and am contemplating weight loss surgery.  I know they do RNY and lapband, but I've decided to go with RNY because the lapband just isn't for me.  Is there anyone else who has PEIA who has recently had RNY?  Can you give me any suggestions with how to get approved.  IIRC, they want you to diet for a year and lose 10% of your body weight and not have any regain.  Is that right?  Is there anything I need to know when dealing with them?  Any tips, tricks, suggestions?  Thanks!

Topic: Health Tracker Updates In Time For The Holidays - Profile Integration and Workouts

Today we released a couple of major updates to Health Tracker just in time for the holidays (as we continue on the path to Health Tracker world domination :). These updates include, 1) Profile display of Health Tracker - If you choose to, you are now able to display/share your Health Tracker within your personal profile. This can be kept completely private, it can be shared with only your friends or with the entire ObesityHelp community. 2) My Workouts - You are now able to build and store custom workouts that can be used over and over again. My Workouts will allow you to log multiple exercise/activity items at one time so you don't have to search for individual exercises each time you want to log your activity or exercise session.

Profile Display of Health Tracker .

The profile display of Health Tracker includes Body, Food Log, Exercise Log and the Macronutrient Report. As mentioned above, this can be kept entirely private or you can choose to share your Health Tracker information with friends, family, your bariatric surgeon or other clinicians.

In order to see the profile view of Health Tracker, when viewing your profile or another member's profile, look for the Health Tracker link to the right of the avatar. If there is no Health Tracker link, the profile view of Health Tracker has been set to private.

The privacy settings for Health Tracker can be found in the "Settings" section of My OH. To access your Health Tracker setting click My OH at the top of any page on ObesityHelp, select "Settings" on the left, click the Health Tracker tab and choose the "Sharing" option. Or, just click here to access your Health Tracker Sharing options :)

Workouts

My Workouts makes it quick and easy to log routine exercise and activity. For those who perform similar exercises on a regular basis, with My Workouts you can create a workout consisting of a series of exercises you often perform and instead logging each exercise indivivudally, My Workouts allows to log a single item (a workout) that contains all of the exericses you have performed. Build it once and log it any number of times.

Under My Workouts you will see a list of workouts that you have created and saved. You can log workouts directly from My Workouts by selecting "I did this", choose the day and click "Save"

You can also search for workouts you have created directly from your Exercise Log.

Create your first workout now!

One other addition

For your convenience, in this release we have also made some changes to the account deactivation process. In case you ever have the need to deactivate your ObesityHelp account, you can access this function by clicking My OH at the top of any page on ObesityHelp, select "Settings" on the left, and under the "General" tab select "Manage". Instructions for deactivating your account can be found there.

Have a great Thanksgiving and look for more updates soon!

If you have any questions, comments or concerns about this release, please post them in this thread on the Main Message Board.

Topic: RE: LAP BAND
Hi turtlelover!

I had my lapband done in Pittsburgh.  I heard the new doctor at Ruby is really good.  But for me lapband was not the answer and I wish I had researched further.  But everybody is different.  I just know that I've seen more then 98% rate with others then with the lapband.

I think it all depends on your eatting habits.  So read all and decide what is best for you !

Good Luck

Topic: RE: Relocating to West Virginia....
Hi Teresa, I also just moved to Huntington (Barboursville actually) from Dayton OH area earlier this summer.  Dr Nease at Cabell Huntington would not take me as a follow-up patient so I ended up going with Dr Robards at St Mary's, and glad that I did.  His staff is fantastic!

I go to support groups at both St Mary's and with Dr Nease, so I can stay accountable.  They meet on different weeks so it works out just fine.  When you move here look me up and you are welcome to join me.

As far as finding a place to live, do you know what area of town you want to live in?  Moving here I have learned that the best way to find someplace is to drive around the area and look for signs.  We rent a house through Garden Park Rentals.  They are more expensive, but they allow us to keep our two dogs, which many landlords do not.  We live in Barboursville, which is right outside of Huntington, and the crime rate is very low, and it is very quiet and peaceful here.  Everyone is super-friendly around WV!

Feel free to contact me.  I know what it is like relocating and not having any friends or family.  My personal email is [email protected].  Good luck with the move!

Does WV medicaid require you to have diabetes even if your BMI is over 40? I'm also trying to get approved through WV medicaid, and I'm currently working on my 6 months with my doctor.

Hi Teresa,

I am working in Huntington as I write this. I had surgery at King's Daughters Medical Center, in near by Ashland, Ky. Here is the link, http://www.yourhealthylife.org/, www.kdmc.com, the first is for the weight loss web site and the second is KDMC's web site.

Also in town is St. Mary's Medical Center and Cabell Huntington Hospital. They both have surgical weight loss programs. Here are the links, http://st-marys.org/service_weightloss.php, http://cabellhuntington.org/services/surgical_weight_control /. Hope these help. All three have support groups. You may want to go to a meeting at each one to get a feel for each. Having had surgery and KDMC I have nothing but good things to say about them. I have had a great experience with them. If you go to the above link for your healthy life and watch the video or look at their success stories, I am the guy on the motorcycle.

The company I work for does a lot of business with CSX. I am not sure about an on line resource other than the local paper. http://www.herald-dispatch.com/.

Posts on this board are sporadic at best. Welcome to WV. You may want to look at communities just outside of Huntington. Such as Barboursville. If you live in the city there are service fees that you don't have to pay outside of the city.

Topic: Relocating to West Virginia....
Hello,
We live in Indiana right now, but my Husband has taken on a new job with CSX in Huntington, W.V. and I was wondering if anyone knew of a good surgeon that could follow my post op care. I had RNY on September 15th..so I am almost 2 months post op. Also we are looking for a nice apartment in this rea and I am having a hard time looking them up online. Is there a specific website for apartment searches in West Virginia? This move is so scary for me because we have lived in Indiana for over 12 years and my baby is only 2 years old so we are moving away from Grandparents and all family as well. I hate this economy but I am thankful tha my Husband was able to find a new job.Thank-you!
