Topic: hello
I am a Registered Nurse in Buckhannon who underwent gastric bypass surgery in November 2005. My surgery was a success as evidenced by a 148 pound weight loss. But now I am starting to struggle with those "old habits creeping up on me" and thought a support group would be helpful. The hospital I work at has a Registered Dietician, a co-worker who is an RN with an extensive mental health background and other health care individuals I'm sure would be glad to speak from time to time. If you are interested in a support group located in Buckhannon, please let me know. My email is: [email protected]
Topic: Insurance
I have WV Medicaid, they say it not life threaning for me to have surgery, but my doctors say it is. Medicaid says that the doctors have to write to them to get approval, I think its because I have Medicaid that I get the run around. Anyone have any suggestions on how I should handle the matter. Please help me.
Topic: Come Mingle Friday Evening May 4th in Orlando, FL.
I have secured the "Moon Terrace" on the 9th floor of the Castle! For the Friday evening "Meet & Greet" at The Doubletree Hotel, also the same location of the 2007 Florida OH Conference. From 6:30 PM to 9:30 PM.
If you get into Orlando early before Saturday morning, please come by to see old friends and make new ones. Fajita's and assorted Cheeses will be available starting at 6:30 PM till they run out. Plus plenty of Iced water, which we're hoping to get some of the "To Go Packet" Flavoring companies to send us their newest flavors.
We were able to secure a block of rooms at the Best Western Plaza Hotel right across the street from the Doubletree Castle for the May 5th Orlando OH conference. $45.00 for a standard room and $59.00 for a suite plus tax of course. In order to get these rates you must use reservation code G/OH/IND and call 800-654-7160. And ask to talk with Ms.Zela Dykes. They will only hold these rates until April. 19th. Plus right now the conference fee is only $20.00, in Advance. $35.00 at the Door. What a deal!!!!
Rooms at the Doubletree Castle Hotel start at $149.00 and up per night.
Check under EVENTS above for further Conference details plus to Register!
Topic: RE: A question from a fellow OH person
Hi!
I used Dr. Daniel Stickler in Charleston. (888-256-7398)
He is great and has a good educational component to his program as well as a good follow-up program. I don't know your SIL's financial/insurance situation, but I can tell you that Dr. Stickler is not a provider for Medicare or Medicaid.
There is also Dr. Robert Shin in the Charleston area. Sorry, no phone number handy for him... He and Dr. Stickler used to be together, but now Dr. Shin runs the weight loss center at Charleston Area Medical Center (CAMC) at the Women's & Children's location in downtown Charleston. Dr. Stickler does his surgeries in the same place, but these two docs have seperate offices at different locations...
Go to

and you can see the info for the WV surgeons who are registered with the OH site...
Hugs,
Lea

Topic: RE: getting nervous
Hi Alison, You should worry if you were not nervous. Every thing will be fine. I am fourteen weeks out and have had a smooth ride. Do everything the Doctor says and I am sure you will have smooth sailing as well. After surgery was the roughest for me. My only advise is to use the pain meds and stay ahead of it. By doing this it allowed me to get up and walking about two hours after surgery and I kept walking every couple of hours or between naps. The nurses said I was going to wear a path in the halls. But I think it helped me alot. Best wishes.

I have had several surgeries and have never had any problems, I guess its just normal to be a little nervous!?! Dr. Shin is very nice and i feel so comfortable with him. Anyone with some comforting words would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Topic: poor turnout for central WV support group...
We had our first meeting of the central West Virginia WLS support group last night (3/21) and had a poor turnout. Anyone who comes is good word of mouth publicity for next month, but I had hopes of seeing at least 5 other people and it didn't work out that way...
I publipers plus the Trader's Guide. I put up notices on local bulletin boards. I have created a YahooGroup and put up a website... I post a note to Dr. Stickler's support group YahooGroup as well as to Dr. Shin's support group YahooGroup. I put up a note at Dr. Stickler's office even.
I did get a few phone calls after the newspapers came out last week... This is what got me to hoping for a decent turnout.... What am I maybe overlooking as far as ways to advertise this?? Any suggestions??
Thanks!
Lea
