TOPAMAX????

Hi, I went to my dr yesterday and he put me on topamax to loose weight but i foud out its an anti seizure med. with a side affect of weight loss? has anyone else tried this? and also how hard is getting aprov. from mountain state blue cross blue shield im just startig out any help would be great! Watch out for Topamax! As well as being used for seizures, it is also used for depression, bipolars, etc. My psych doc kept pushing it on me for weight loss - before it became approved for that - and I immediately started having severe pain in my eyes. One day I found an article that was published about the very serious side effects of Topamax that were causing the FDA to consider withdrawing it from the market. One of them was glaucoma. I stopped taking it taht day and the pain in my eyes went away over the next few weeks never to return! So be careful and if start getting unexplained headaches and eye pain - GET OFF TOPAMAX. And ask your doctor abut it.

THANKS LYNN, YESTERDAY WAS THE FIRST DAY ON THEM AND I DIDNT FEEL ANY DIF THROUGHOUT THE DAY BUT LAST NIGHT I STARTED FEELING REALY ANCTIOUS AND WHEN I TRIED TO GO TO SLEEP LAST NIGHT MY HEAD WAS JUST SPINNING SO I DONT THINK ILL BE TAKING THEM AGAIN. THANKS FOR ALL YOUR HELP,TERESA

my dr also prescribed Topamax for me (i prefer the name "dopamax",lol) he said that in conjunction with Wellbutrin ,iwould lose weight .Granted,i did lose my appetite,but i also felt as if i was losing my sanity too!!! That drug gave me the nervous jitters 24/7 ,i began having hallucinations on my 2nd week,so by far it wasnt worth it

One of the side effects of Topomax is kidney stones. My dr. put me on this in conjunction with my Lexapro because that alone wasn't working. He said they have seen weight loss with it too and I thought GREAT! He did ask if I had any kidney problems in the past because they could cause stones, and I was like, no and I seriously doubt it'll happen to me. WRONG. Within 2 months I started having horrible horrible pain in my side, figured that is what it was and rode it out until I passed it. It was the most excruciating 2 days I have ever had!
