Recommending Dr. Ghaphrey over Dr. Reddy

Hi! I am almost 9 months post op from a lap. RNY done in Wheeling, West Virginia. My surgeon was Dr. David Ghaphrey. I consulted with Dr. Reddy in late spring of 2002 and found him to be a very likable guy but, at that time, he had just been suspended for having 2 people die after doing appx. 60 RNY surgeries. He was out of the loop for almost a year and now I see he is doing the surgeries again. I went to Dr. Ghaphrey after waiting 2 months for Dr. Reddy to be allowed to do surgery and I believe I made a great decision! Dr. Ghaphrey is somewhat new at doing them, he has done them for a year and a half. He does lapriscopic instead of open. Dr. Reddy does open only. I know ANY surgery runs certain risks. For myself, I am SO glad I went with Dr. ghaphrey over Dr. Reddy. I would not feel safe with a man who has lost 2 people out of 60. That is pretty scary. This surgery CAN be life or death and I ask you to please consider ALL the surgeons avaliable in the area instead of settling for the one who may be closest to home! Peace, Stacy

I am so happy for you Stacy and glad you are happy with your choice of drs. I glad you have gotten along well after surgery. I Live in Parkersburg, I have decided to go to Pittsburgh and see if I can get Dr. Schauer for a lap RNY. I am waiting on the packet of information they send out from their office. I got a letter from my insurance co BCBS that they will pay Dr. Schauer as an in network provider because no one close to here is board certified. Things are moving along, but seems slow.
