Hi my name is Leanna and I am 5 weeks out and I have read some of your posts about "slider" foods.  Would someone tell me exactly what they are.  I don't want to make any mistakes.  Thanks for any help you can give.

Question: Slider Foods

What are they, I have heard this term used on more than one occasion, does any one know what this term means?    — Nicole Caouette (posted on February 1, 2008)

February 1, 2008 Sliders are any food that desolves very quickly and does not stay in your pouch, ie.. pretzels, yougart.. etc. Have a great day!!!!    — Frank Cartwright

February 1, 2008 Even though yogurt is a slider food, it is a good protein/calcium/healthy snack as opposed to pretzels which are carbs and a really bad habit...I know...I love pretzels and have to watch those! Cottage and any cheeses are slider foods. They make good sides/snacks and with solid proteins. Soups and eggs and are slider foods. Liquids will also wash solid food out of the pouch and the reason to not drink 30 mins before and after meals. The longer the pouch stays full...the better in maintaining your weight forever...Hope that helps.    — .Anita R.

February 1, 2008 Soup and any heave liquid or slippery food is a slider food. Peaches are a slider food too. I don't eat them with anything else as it will push the food out of the pouch and allow you to eat more. I buy canned peaches packed with water and Splenda.    — William (Bill) Wmil

February 2, 2008 This is taken from Kaye Baileys 5DPT website that I used this past week and lost 7 lbs on. I have cut out using soups as a way of eating just for less calories and such. Cut out crackers also. Slider foods slide right through the stoma into the jejunum. My first test of the slider foods was graham crackers and coffee for my after work snack. Now imagine, I could eat a stack of graham crackers and wa**** right through the pouch with the coffee and never feel any satiation. What resulted was an easily absorbed slurry that my jejunum sucked up like a sponge - it didn't have to do any work to absorb this simple carbohydrate slurry. Of course, weight gain resulted and I had to give up this little indulgence. Another popular slider food is pretzels. I speak with post-ops all the time who are addicted to pretzels - again, this is a simple carb that your jejunum is very happy to receive and convert to fat. Traditionally dieters are encouraged to eat pretzels or popcorn - fat free and fiber, right? But that doesn't work so well for us. Giving our re-routed bodies these simple carbs is dangerous because our bodies have spent years perfect the art of fat storage - slider foods are to the body a great big lottery win. By the way, in my example I spoke of a slurry from graham crackers and coffee. Simple carbs, however, will slide right through without the added benefit of a liquid. And several others can talk about cheese nip crackers, popcorn, mashed potatoes, ice cream/yogurt etc.    — Ms Pisces
