Wanted to let those who are researching, lookinf or lurking....that Dr. Daniel Stickler with Medabolix is now performing the VGS - Gastric Sleeve procedure laproscopicaly.  This new option is one that  I know may interest many because of the mal-absorption issures with RNY.  Didn't know if the word was out yet, but wanted to encourage those looking to definately know this.

Lea,   Dr. Stickler doesn't actually do the lap-band.  He has another surgeon do it.

Hi!  I was Dr. Stickler's first Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy!  It will be two years ago on June 28th, 2008.  I have lost 290 pounds!  Dr. Stickler is a wonderful surgeon.

what complications if any have you had? Also do you have to worry about the stomach stretching back out after time?

Hi, I'm Peggy  from Panama. I have been getting all my work ups for the gastric sleeve, would you care to share what were the most unconfortable  side effects of your surgery?

I had many other health issues also at the time.  Dr. Stickler reversed my colostomy and repaired a basketball size hernia at the same time he did the vertical sleeve.  I was in surgery almost 8 hours.  I did well, even with all of that.  My biggest problem seemed to be getting dehydrated.  You can only drink small amounts and I guess I just didn't get enough fluids in.  I had to go in and get IV fluids twice.  I had to eat small amounts very, very slowly.  That was hard to get use to.  Drinking vey small amounts was tough too.  As far as pain goes, it wasn't bad.  He did it all laprascopic.  The weight came off pretty quickly.  If you have any questions, please let me know.  Good luck!

Hi,

Can you please let me know how long was the recovery after the Gastric Sleeve?

Also, were there any foods that you absolutely could not tolerate after surgery?

And have you ever drank alcohol since the surgery? If so, how did it go? (I'm talking about an occasional drink from time to time)

I am having my lapband removed and getting the Gastric Sleeve soon.

Thanks,
Chrissy

Hi!

Fried foods really bother me and red meat, breads and pastas are hard for me to digest.  I have never drank alcohol, before or after my surgery, so I can't answer that question.  Your stomach is only the size of your index finger, so you can eat very little.  You have to take very small bites, chew them really well and take your time.  The same goes for drinks.  The recovery was about six weeks I think.  Good luck!

Hello,  Dr. Stickler appears to be an excellent doctor however, prior to your surgery, did you have any concerns that you were his first VSG patient?  It has been recommended that a prospective surgeon should have ample experience (have performed lots of VSG procedures) to ensure a safe and good result.  It is obvious that this surgeon was successful with you but I was just wondering if prior to making your decision to be his first VSG candidate if you were at all concerned?  Thank you for sharing your story.
