I am new to the website. I was hoping for any suggestions for the protein drinks. I am 5 days out and am having a hard time with getting my protein in. It tastes horrible!

Hi Katrina, You will find the WVa board is not that active, but welcome. I use Isopure Zero Carb. I have tried and use the Creamy Vanilla and the Dutch Chocolate. I have found that it mixes best when stirred. I tried a blender and it made a foam that would not go away. As well as 50 grams of protein it has vitamins and minerals. It is a bit pricey. I have bought it from bariatriceating.com and GNC carries it as well. I have also found it on ebay. If you buy it at GNC get the Gold Cub card and you get 20% the first ten days of the month. It will pay for it's self the first time you use it. I catch it when they have a buy one get one at half price, then with the 20% the price is not to bad. I also use Any Whey unflavored protein. It is great to add to food after or when cooking. pan head

Thanks. i will have to try that. This has been my biggest problem since my surgery is getting in my protein. When I can start on solids I will get the unflavored and add that to my food. Katrina

Hi Katrina! Congratulations on your surgery! I'd like to invite you to our monthly support group meetings in Beckley. We had a "protein party" in November and we will have another either in March or April. I'll be bringing some protein samples tonight, though, and you are welcome to try them! The Beckley WLS Support Group meeting will be held today, February 12, from 7:00-9:00pm at Raleigh General Hospital on Harper Road, Beckley. Our meeting location is in the Education Center (annex building on the Kroger side of RGH). I wish I had seen your post earlier so I could have invited you earlier, but I do post a message here about the meeting each month. You and anyone you want to bring are welcome. If you are interested and you would like to receive a monthly email-reminder for the Beckley WLS Support Group Meetings, please email me at [email protected] and I'll add you to the list. Would love to meet you! Beth

Hi Katrina, I am 6 weeks out and was having the same problems. Here are some of my suggestions: GNC ( at Crossroads Mall as well as other locations ) ha*****h flavored Liquid Protein. I have mixed it with water and juice. Both work, depending on what you prefer. ( And youre getting the best of both worlds with liquids and protein!) 3 Tbs equals 20 grams of protein! Yesterday, I actually bought some sugar free cranberry juice and added some of this liquid and it was terrific! I drank 2 during the day and got 40 grams of protein!! I didnt see who your surgeon was but my surgeon was Dr Shin / CAMC and when I asked him about it, he said it was fine. As long as I was getting protein! Right? I also bought some unflavored powder from Unjury ( you can find their links on this site ) Very good, IMO. Especially if you want to mix it into something and not want to change the flavor of it. I have used this in drinks like V8. Still get the flavor of the drink but not the bad taste. **The one thing at Unjury I didnt care for was their new Chicken Soup Broth flavored protein. I ordered a sample and didnt care for the thickness of it. I also tried several flavored protein mixes, including chocolate mint ( smelled good, tasted gross ). You need to experiment and even then, your tastes will change along the way. Good luck to you. Jen
