WV PEIA???

Can anyone provide any information on PEIA and their requirements for WLS? I'm actually asking for a friend.

I have WV PEIA and had the RNY in July 06. I'm doing great and have lost 85 lbs. PEIA is very anal about having paperwork done correctly. You have to have comorbid problems such as sleep apnea, diabetes, high blood pressure, etc. I had a few problems; however, I was denied 3 times. You can read my profile to get the information. PEIA has a secretary (I think her name is Veda) who I think sits behind a desk and plays 'eeny meanie minie mo' to see who she will allow to have the surgery or not. I tried talking to her several times and got NOWHERE! So, I let the nutritionist and my doctor's office personnel deal with her and then I was approved. You have to have 6 months of medically supervised diet. Maybe the restrictions have changed since this past summer. I wasn't happy about PEIA; however, my mind changed once I started receiving bills in the mail from the hospital in Morgantown and the surgery was $42000 and my bill was $870. So, I am trying not to complain. Staying in WV was a good choice for me. My doctor was excellent and the staff at the doctor's office are awesome! Anyway, good luck and I hope this helps!
