My husband just had the surgery on 5/15/06. He has only been home for 2 days and I feel so guilty eating in front of him! He said to not worry about it. He knows I have to eat even though he can only have liquids. This should only be a problem for 5 weeks though because than he will be eating "normal" food too. Stick it out because he will be healthier in the long run.

Update-- my wife is about 4.5 months out now and has lost over 54 lb. She looks and feels terrific (she feels terrific to me too ). Her whole attitude towards food has changed. She used to be a chocoholic and now she doesn't even think about chocolate! She's been following the Doc's post surg eating advice pretty much to the letter and trying to get in the exercise , which is tough since she's in nursing school and has little time. She doesn't miss her favorite foods because at this point she can eat pretty much anything she likes, just in very small quantities.
Myself... I haven't lost much weight. My biggest error is during lunch when I'm not eating with Charlene. Not that I have huge amounts to lose, but 10 lb would be nice.

My hubby is having surgery on 5/16. I have been trying to lose weight, more seriously than usual, since December and have taken off 12 lbs. I'm hoping that his surgery will help me too. I have some questions... Maybe I should have started a new string, but I thought it might fit here... Is it hard to have your non wls spouse eat in front of you? Do you miss "regular" food? My hubby isn't the easiest going guy, gets really grumpy now when he's hungry and I'm afraid that he will be grumpy because he misses his favorite foods. Also, he doesn't have too much to lose, hes 260 and 5'10", but his diabetes is out of control so he needs to lose about 60 - 80 lbs. They say this will basically "cure" his diabetes.

Hubby had surgery Jan '06 to date has lost 86 lbs. I've lost 30 lbs....
No more junk food around me so I'm not picking and suprisingly I'm not missing it. I have been experimenting with Tofu cheesecake and following the Gastric Bypass cookbook that the surgeon recommended in the Bible that was given to my hubby pre-surgery.....cake was a hit for Easter with the whole family!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Topic: RE: SAD.
hey Joe,
I'm just about 3 years post op and feel great. I was fat when I met, married and had 10 years of a life with the man of my life. I was always insecure about myself and my life as was my husband. I started showing interests in my own life; school, my singing and job prospects for our future. I have been a stay at home for all of these years and wanted to explore life but he just couldn't handle that so our marriage is ending. I beg and plead almost on a weekly basis for him to come home and be a family again but to no avail. It is killing me inside literally!! He was and is the love of my life and I married for life I thought. I supported him through college, job changes, and then Grad. School and he couldn't give that to me in return. I will never regret having the surgery but I have lost my true love because of it. I don't know if I will ever find that kind of love again. We went through some counseling but he gave up so quickly. I don't understand how 15 years together could end just like that.
It's been awhile since your post. I am going through the motions and looking for support now. How are you doing?
Prayers,
Susan

Hello-
congrats on losing some weight, last time I posted my hubby hasn't lost any, but he has gained. I think its from him eating all of my leftovers! LOL! He has put on 10 lbs. Which him putting on the 10 lbs he is in the normal range! He has been overweight. Makes him more healthy. How are things going now still losing a bit? Hope all is well
