Hi Jen,
Welcome to LWs.
My journey began at 183, and I am only 5' so my starting BMI was 35. I have gotten feedback on "not looking that heavy" but the scale doesn't lie and BMI is just math...
Every journey is unique but I can share my journey as a LW and even though it hasn't been very long (5 weeks) it has been more successful in my mind.
Pre -op I was 171 lbs, at 1 week I was 161 lbs, 1 month 148 lbs. I can see where it has slowed somewhat, and adding in walking 1 mile a day helped me pick up the pace somewhat.
I am a little less than 20 lbs from my goal and I am sure it will continue to slow but my follow up appt with my surgeon is April 4th, and I would be thrilled to be at my surgeon's goal then. Of course I know it will take upping my exercise even more. His goal for me is 128, which is no longer overweight for my height. However, at 118 I felt amazing, and felt like I looked amazing, that was about 2007 - 2008.
Sorry I cannot offer more data... best wishes on your journey!

I am so glad to find this forum. I am a fellow lightweight. I began my journey at 5'2" and 195 with a BMI of 35.7. However, I have polycystic ovarian syndrome which comes with a host of weight-related issues including high blood pressure, elevated cholesterol, apple figure, infertility, insulin resistance, to name a few. Thankfully I have not had anything but support from family members, co-workers, and basically everyone. I have had a few people ask me how on earth I qualified, but other than that, nothing but love! The biggest issue I found prior to my gastric bypass on January 22 is that there wasn't really any representation of how my journey might appear. I saw so many posts of people losing 60 pounds in the first few months, but I knew that's not what would happen for me. My entire weight loss will only be 60 to 75 pounds, so there's no way I would lose that amount of weight in a couple months!
So I'm really curious about the journey of some veterans here! How long did it take you to reach your goal? How much weight did you lose the first three months, or six? What have been some of your experiences?
Blessings to all!
Jen

i have done a lot of walking for exercise over the years. I started walking again before surgery and joined our church fitness center for the year. I have done well walking at least 30 minutes and up to 3 miles a day- mostly 2.5 miles. I plan to stick to it as it helps me feel better. I want to try yoga as well, for flexibilty
I think my surgeon told me 1-2 pounds a month to " under promise and over deliver" on results. I attended all the program classes and consults and know better
You make a great point about "breakfast foods" just getting the right nutrients needs to be my focus.
Thanks for taking the time to respond.

Protein, protein, protein. Never mind the carrots. cheese, deli meat, tuna, eggs, moist chicken, shrimp, chili....
check out theworldaccordingtoeggface she has tons of recipes for all stages. she makes a Ricotta Bake that many rave about.
You might find that early out you are eating the same food(s) for each meal. also to ensure you hit your protein goal use protein shakes until you can manage on real food. chicken can be hard for many. Try and keep it real moist, use dark meat, gravy.
Don't get caught up on what is "breakfast food" or lunch, etc. Any type of food can be any meal for me now.
Hey Lightweights,
I just hit my 3 week point and am now on "regular" foods. I have the list of foods but I feel like nothing really even sounds good. I have tried cheese, which was good. I tried chicken, I got sick, like it was stuck and I was coughing up something clear for 30minutes to an hour. So no chicken for a while!
Today I picked up canned tuna & canned carrots. I just feel stuck for ideas. Help LW Friends?

thank you, Ginnny I will leave off the crackers. Carbs are addictive and don't want to go there. So, I will go get my egg salad and subtract the 2 crackers I had planned. I want to get to goal!!
I would leave out the crackers going forward. It may say on your plan that they are allowed but most successful people here don't eat simple carbs during the weight loss phase. No potatoes, pasta, rice, bread, crackers, chips, etc. etc.
Protein protein protein, and then if there's room non starchy veg. It's up to you - you will still lose weight because the surgery is doing all the work, but if you avoid these things from the start it will make it much easier for you the further out you get.
Welcome and congrats on your RNY! This LW board was my main support team after my RNY and I I've met a lot of LW's who have had the RNY but never one who only lost 2 pounds a month! Maybe he doesn't want to get your hopes up. My surgery was on October and I know by Christmas I had lost a decent amount. I think it's posted on my profile page. Concentrate on Protein food/drinks. Cut out as many carbs as you can. If you can go back and read some of the old LW menus. Are you an active person? Exercise etc. I never was so I didn't count on that as a way to loose weight. So many people start exercising and then lose interest and start gaining their weight back. If you've always been an active person then definitely go for it but if you aren't chances are you will quit soon after goal and the weight will start coming back on.

God is walking with me every step of the way. Because of HIM this is possible!!
