You are definitely a Lightweight!!!! Welcome to our Lightweight Board!!!! #1 WE DON'T CARE WHO JOINS US!!!!!!
#2 You can't go by your BMI because of everyone's height being different. I'm only 4'11 (maybe 10.5) my BMI is a lot higher than a taller person and losing 80 pounds took me from being obese to a normal BMi.
Come Join Us!!! We love new posters and we are here if you have questions or need support!!!

you're right - lightweights lose more slowly than those of us with 100+ lbs to lose. That said, I had 100+ lbs to lose, and I never saw any spectacular drops. I lost 16 lbs the first month, and then 10-12 lbs a month until month six or seven (at which point it dropped even further). And I've lost 230 lbs, so....
I had about the same number of calories that your nutritionist is recommending. I remember being at about 800-1000 from months 6-12, then I went up to 1000-1200 once I was a year out. Now in maintenance, I average 1500-1700 calories a day - and have been maintaining on that for four months (actually, I've even dropped a little lately - not sure why). My calories have always been on the high side (compared to other WLS patients), and I always worried about that, but somehow, the weight came off regardless. Maybe I just have a decent metabolic rate or something - I don't know.
Figured I would start this post today!
Today is my 3 month F/U with the surgeon! I can't be the only one who picked out the lightest weight dress I own on a 38 degree morning and threw a jean jacket over it right? I know it doesn't really matter, but I desperately want to be under 180lbs on their scale. Last time I think I was up about 4lbs from home. This morning I was 175.6 at home...so it's going to be close!

At the end of the day, it is the number of calories you consume which will determine your rate of loss. Keep them low, but quality/high protein. I didn't get over 800 calories until about 7 months post-op. I still drop lower than that periodically when I am in "adjustment" mode (compensating for larger than normal calories on a previous day).

Looks like I'm the Lone Ranger here. Why does the weekend go so much faster when you're working that the weekday???
I was on the go yesterday all day. Went out for breakfast and I chose from the light menu. I like that they offer the lighter meals. I used to order an omelet, but I don't like them now. I can eat a fried egg but not scrambled. Before WLS, I preferred scrambled. DH had a huge plate of biscuits and gravy.
I lost my dog 2 weeks ago and yesterday I got a puppy. My BFF's daughter wanted a dog but wouldn't take care of it. He was in a kennel most of the time so she gave him to me. He's so cute, part Shih Tzu and Papillion. He's only about 5 lbs.
Today's eats:
Click shake (15 g)
Quest breakfast bar (12 g)
Ham, protein chips (23 g)
Sargento Balanced Breaks (7 g)
Chicken; roasted veggies
Strawberries with Halo ice cream

I'm diagnosed as a Type I diabetic (dead pancreas, Type I's do not produce any insulin) and have been for 21 years. However, we've known for about 2 years now that I'm certainly not Type I as I started to question my diagnosis and was able to do a short stint off all insulin (prior to surgery, and with very close doctor supervision). It's likely I actually have a genetic form of diabetes called MODY, which is also incurable but much more manageable than Type I.
Anyway. The day before my prep diet I took 60 units of insulin. I now take 3.75 units per day. I had VSG. But, I eat low carb (15-25g per day) and I work out 5-6 times per week. My A1c that was drawn at 8 weeks post op was 5.3% (down from around 6.0% prior to surgery).
So yes, I've seen great improvement but it's not without work and it's no magic cure that came about simply by my weight dropping. I chose VSG because I did not have GERD issues, I was terrified of dumping (but now think it would have all been fine if I'd chose it) and because I knew it wasn't going to take my diabetes completely away.

I think there are other factors involved that you'll need to discuss with your surgeon. They will take a complete medical history and with all of that information, give you the best suggestion for your health.
I went in completely sure that I wanted the sleeve. I hated the idea of dumping. I thought that removing part of my stomach would be better and I thought that the possibility of nutritional deficiencies was super scary.
After learning why the RNY was best for me, there was no question in my mind. I had out of control GERD and a long family history of diabetes and high blood pressure with heart disease. If I wanted to truly be healthy, RNY was my best option.
Listen to your surgeon, don't make any decisions until your consult.
