the time has flown by and I am ready for my new surgery date of July 16,2018! My journey has been long. I was referred in September 2016 and had the group orientation in January 2017. My initial clinic visit was for March 2016, then that was rescheduled for May 2016. I was told my surgery would be sometime in December , January or February. Then a surgeon left our clinic pushing my surgery date further out. The clinic cancelled my psychologist consultation at the last minute, resulting in a further 6 week delay. I finally received a surgery date of May 23, 2018 that was postponed, I got that call 10 minutes before I was to leave for the hospital! I am keeping my fingers crossed that the July date is a go.
No, this is my first WLS and I hope my only one. Less than 3 weeks until surgery!
If you're revising from a band, I'd seriously consider RNY as VSG often results in long term GERD/acid reflux, especially for people with pre-existing GERD. Because of this, there are many examples of banders getting 3 weight loss surgeries (Band->VSG->RNY).
Food for thought: Your insurance may only pay for 1 revision surgery so if you go with VSG and then need an RNY later, you may end up having to self-pay for the final surgery.

Hiya, I'm self paying and my BMI is low at 31.6. I was banded at BMI 30. It's hard to find consultants willing to operate. I saw one consultant who agreed. Yesterday I met another. This consultant prescribed weight loss medication and said if that doesn't work then injections and thirdly if that doesn't work then he'd suggest another band.
I just want to go back to the way I was with the band. Able to eat and drink whatever but always maintaining my weight for 5 years able to fit into the same work clothes etc. I'm so confused. Of course I will try the tablets. My acid was also controlled with the band.
OP: Obviously it is your decision, but I think you should strongly consider the RNY and not talk yourself out of it. If you don't go through with it, the odds are high that you may gain weight, which could lead to regret, and exacerbate your PCOS. Good luck.
Have you had an EGD to determine if you have acid reflux? A number of people with bands develop GERD and the best resolution of it is with RNY instead of VSG, DS, or SADI. You don't want to end up needing 3 WLS; band to VSG to RNY, which unfortunately is not an uncommon experience. Good luck with your decision.
You aren't the only one checking in. I just did also!!! It's been so long and soooooooooo and many things have happened in my life. I remember when we were like family and shared, cared, and carried each other through more than just the weight. We were sisters and had a couple of brothers. Maybe we can bring it back.
It's been more than 6 years since I posted and I had reached my goal of 140. Now I'm 191. Doing Weigh****chers and down from 204. I hated it when I crossed over 200.
But hello everyone! Spread the word. We really can help each other!
Lord knows I need the support! LOV you ROZ!!!
Hi Roz!! Yes, this site used to be very busy - lots of people. I check in about once a month (reading mostly)... Hope all is well with you and your family - love seeing your posts on FB!!

Honestly, regain is real with any surgery. It's all in how you use your tool. I had RNY in September 2008. I weighed 208 at surgery. I got down to 121 (too low) bounced back to 127... stayed there a few years, regained 30 (around 2013-2014), lost 30 (in 2016), got back down to 125, stayed at 127 another year, now I'm sitting at 132, which is comfortable for me, but I'd love to see under 130 again.
I want you to be aware that with RNY you CAN and WILL have some regain. Our mantra is "lose as much as you can during your honeymoon phase because you will have some regain". Yes, there's a few that don't and have problems, but for the majority of us it's in our control if we do or don't.
I'm sure there are other variations of the surgery since I had mine. I haven't stayed up on them, so it would be good if you did as much research as you could about the different surgeries. You need to be vigilant with vitamins with RNY and DS. Not sure about VSG, but you probably should still supplement.
Good luck!
