I'm I the only one who feels guilty?

Hello LWs. I went to a nutrition meeting this morning at my clinic ad kind of felt guilty or something for being there. I was the smallest person in the room besides the RDN giving the class. It was almost like I shouldn't be here. I can do this with out revision. Just get the band out and move forward. But I have gained most of my weight back even with the band due to not being able to hold down dense protein. I have gone back to carbs and soft foods that I know will not come right back up. Anyway I felt like everyone was staring like I didn't need to be there. maybe its all in my head and the witch in my head just wants me to feel like I'm fine and I do not need to lose any weight and am good the way I am. UUGGG Am I the only LW that has felt this way?

You have as much right to be there as anyone. Maybe you're the smart one...getting ahead of this before it gets worse. You've got this. Do what you need to do.

I feel the same way you do. When I got to the support meetings I am the smallest one there. It is my own internal dialogue. I don't "look" that overweight but I am by about 100 pounds. As the PP stated, you have just as much right as the others. I try to tell myself that it is my journey and it is ok if other folks don't want to come along with me.

NO is the answer to your last question!!!!! This is exactly why we have this Lightweight Board to post on!! I've been so thankful to have my lightweights to share my struggles and victories with!!

Some of us have felt uncomfortable or taken abuse on the "regular" Obesity Help boards. This is my only support group because I felt so out of place just sitting in the waiting room for my Surgeon appointments that I never went to any of the support groups that were available to me.

I am 8+ years out and I am still amazed how much my life has benefited with the extra 84 pounds that I have kept off.

OH...and I don't rely on dense protein to get my protein requirements in. I swear by Whey Protein and if I have dense protein then that's just an added bonus.

God is walking with me every step of the way. Because of HIM this is possible!!

Thanks guys. I have been told I carry my weight well. No one ever believes me when I tell them I am 200 lbs. 200 at 5'3'' is not good for me. It's nice to know I have somewhere to turn if I need the support.

Hi.. I can't believe you said that - it is exactly what I was feeling. My weight is 248 I am due to have sleeve surgery the end of August - I am going thru the classes and when I walked in. People were on oxygen, walkers, 300- 400 lbs. I was looking around like "I don't know about this". My dietician has been amazing and everyone has been very supportive but yes, I did feel exactly what you said... My head started thinking maybe I don't need something this drastic, maybe I can go back to WW for the 15th time. But no - I am going to do this and get my life back. I may be 248 lbs - but I am not going to be a prisoner in this body anymore.... Glad I found this board. JoAnn

I'm right there with you at 5' 2" and 200 lbs which no one believes. My surgery is scheduled for 6/26 and as I start my liquid pre op diet tomorrow I wonder if I'm doing the right thing. I've been fighting this fight for 30 years and I don't want to spend the next 30 years being frustrated with putting in the effort for little results.

You are my twin. 5'3'' 201lbs at my initial surgeons consult. I am having VSG on Monday June 26th. We can be battle buddies. I know it is the right thing for me to do. I have to get the band out of my body but know I will eat out of control with no restriction. We can do this and will be much healthier a year from now.

I also worried that I was doing the wrong thing by jumping straight to the bypass without trying the balloons (something my doc is doing) or doing the band...but I started having reflux in the last year and they told me the bypass was best for that, so that's why I chose it. I'll admit I'm indulging today, but I think I'm ready and hope that I can keep myself busy enough this upcoming week to get through the pre-op diet successfully. Keep me posted on your progress - it looks like you had to start a pre-op diet sooner than I did. The 26th will be here soon!

Hi,

Thanks for posting your thoughts. Many times I have felt like this as well. I am 5'4" and weigh 220. When I went for the internist appointment, he asked me (twice) if I was pre-op or post-op. I felt really uncomfortable and he tried to talk me out of the surgery. He told me the patient he had before me was twice my bmi. You know, I don't think I need to justify why I need this surgery, even if my bmi is below 40. I have two co-morbidities. I have been referred by a doctor and followed all of the "rules" to qualify for the surgery. Still waiting to hear when I will meet with the surgery and waiting for a surgery date. Sometimes it's frustrating, but I feel like I have been waiting all my life for this.
