Work attire for the shrinking employee
I'll be starting a new job one month post RNY. The office is business attire on the slightly casual side (Men wear ties but no jackets). I'm trying to come up with some ideas for putting together a wardrobe that can be worn reasonably well "too big". Right now I'm wearing a size 16W or 18 in most clothing.
Any ideas will be appreciated!

I did a lot of thrift store shopping. I bought a new wardrobe just about every month when I was losing. I bought pants without pockets so I could easily take them in on the sides. Belts were my best friend. I drilled extra holes in them until they looked ridiculous. JC Penney always has great shirts on clearance.
Congrats on the new job!

ThredUP.com - I would buy work basics in the next size down as I was losing so I could dress well for work.

Well don't do what I did!!!! I spent way to much on clothes during the losing stage!!! I ended up giving them all to Dress for Success....what a waste of money!!! If I had it all to do over again I'd definitely go to the resell stores, borrow from a friend or go to a discount store before I'd buy new.
I'm making up for my spending spree now though. I bought 2 good pairs of dress pants in black, brown, navy and gray that I have been wearing for over 6 years now ( I get them dry cleaned) and it's rare for me to buy tops that aren't on the end of the year sales racks. I also have some cardigans to match each pair so I change things up.

I hate buying work attire because it needs to be relatively boring (working in midwest hospital system). I'm hoping to do what you did and basically put together a mix and match wardrobe of good quality basics.

Like Roz, I probably spent more than I should have even with consignment clothing, but I only go on the office twice a week. The benefit is that I learned about these places and bought most of my at goal wardrobe that way as well.
