So far all is well.  After about a week things really started getting easier for me.  I have no problem with getting my liquids in.  I do still have to rely on a 20 gram protein shake in order to get my daily protein in.  Some days may be a bit difficult in accomplishing 800 calories, but I feel great.  My energy is almost back to normal.  I plan to start back Crossfit in about a month.

But I have decided not to use the scale until I see my nutritionist on the 12th.   I feel thinner and my clothes validate that I am losing, but I have not really lost pounds since the week of the surgery.  I walk 30 minutes briskly each morning.  I think my body is in starvation mode and trying to hold on to all that fat for dear life.  So I find the scales really disheartening right now.

I have slowly informed some special people in my life of the surgery. They have been most supportive.

If any of you have words of encouragement or stories of your initial weight loss/stall, please share.  I am going to beat this!!

Thanks,

lkc

I had the RNY so I don't know how that compares to your VSG but but it sounds like you are doing really greatl.

Did your nutritionist tell you to get 800 calories in every day?  I averaged around 400 at the beginning and never seen 800 until I was about 5 months out.  Raised it to 1000 with protein drinks at  8 months out.

Yes, I was told around 800 cals a day.  Most days I'm better with about 5-600 though.  Thanks for your input and good luck!

Regardless of the type of surgery you had, it is normal to level off on losing weight at about the 3 week period - so don't feel you aren't losing or you are failing.  It's just your body catching up with what's going on.

Be sure you take measurements - as it will save your sanity when the scale isn't moving.  I took mine monthly so I could see the progress.

I agree with Roz - I probably only got about 4-500 calories a day but my Dr didn't give me a specific calorie goal - just protein first, then complex carbs (veggies).

Sounds like you're doing great - congratulations!

I had VSG as well - My calories didn't hit 800 until about 5-6 months in.  In the first few months I was lucky I hit 600.  The surgeons office said I should eat more calories, but i couldn't.  I hit goal in about 7 months and am very health now.

I only weighed once a week during the weight loss period to avoid being disappointed - I now weigh daily in maintenance.
