I'm so glad you found us here on the lightweight board. We'll do everything we can to support and offer our experience without putting you down.

I think you just have to try different things and find what works for you. Some folks do really great with protein supplements and I'm one of those. Some folks can't stand protein shakes and do better with soft proteiny foods for several more weeks or even months. I would say just try not to over stretch the pouch with dense food at first. As you get further out, you may want to try to control the full feeling with denser protein foods but your pouch is likely still quite swollen.

Welcome!

I too ate a " lot " at first ( I actually ASKED for a large pouch because I love fiber and salads which I thought stopped me losing  a few  weeks post op ) ... but it all worked out .

Putting down the excess bites  addiction to me is key .. and I found the only that works for me long term is to make my life so healthy and beautiful and sustainable that I don't need to self-medicate in any way .

Kind of easier said than done and yes these changes do take a tremendous amount of ( very stressful) effort at least they did in my case . But totally worth the time and effort .

I do take a tremendous amount of vitamins daily ... eat and drink a LOT of kale spinach etc... screw a lot ( Chinese its VERY healthy - Deer-like  I've discovered I'm kind of a sensual person .. and it doesn't need to involve food only fifteen yrs younger men who love me for who I am :) ( is that even POSSIBLE ?)

The biggest question is: is it working for you? If so, and you're losing (which it looks as if you are), then you're gold!

My doc/nut also said between 1000-1200 calories (I'm almost 6 mo out), and I have a REALLY hard time eating that many calories a day. BUT when I do up the calorie count (at least 900) AND I get all my protein/water in, I tend to lose. So who knows??

You will experiment and figure what works for you. Some advice along the way is good, but ultimately it's your life!

Best,

Victorria

I actually have the sleeve and am 16 months post op and I have had to increase my calories to see the scale move some! I workout a lot and it was suggested that I wasn't eating enough. Within days of increasing I lost a few pounds. It's scary to increase, but I guess it works for some of us. I believe when I was at the stage you are at I was lucky if I was taking in 600 calories a day. Everyone is different though and every plan is different. I think I was at the soft food stage at this point.

The 1000 calories may work well for you right now... But if you continue to lose weight there may be a point, as your would get smaller , that you may need less calories to keep losing, to get to goal.

I am 8 years post op and my BMR is app 1300-1400 calories. If I want to lose weight now - I need to eat less than 1000 calories, and avoid most carbs.

What I may see as a potential problem - since you still are healing from the revision - that you need to be careful not to eat too much volume, that may cause enlargement of the pouch and stoma overtime. First 6 months I measured everything (volume) and I am not sure if that is one of the reasons that my pouch is still rather small and if I eat dense proteins (i.e steak) I can eat 4-5 oz of it plus a few bites of veggies and be full for hours. (i do add butter to my steak - in maintenance)

Eating too much volume wise - when youn are not completely healed may cause problems in the future

Hala.... I am absolutely concerned that my pouch is way to big. I DO NOT feel full after eating the amount I'm supposed to be eating . I hate that bc I was looking forward to the " I just can't eat another bite" feeling that others describe . I go to my 6 week check up Tuesday and want to tell him how I feel . It makes me terrified that this will not be. Successful surgery for me . I lost 10 lbs the first weekend 7 since then .... I'm not losing good now so I can't imagine getting off 60 more lbs , especially when this is such a " golden time " for feeling full nd losing. I do make the right choices and avoid carbs at all cost . But example last night I ate my tender sirloin and about 30 min later still felt hungry and went back and ate 2 more ounces before feeling satisfied . I don't know if I just have to mentally get stronger and say no I've had enough or if there's a physical reason. I don't want to fail.

Sometimes people misinterpret thirst as hunger. If you're not drinking while you're eating, which of course is rule number one for RNYers, and didn't deink much after you ate, you may have been thirsty rather than hungry.

If you ate less than 3 hours ago and you feel hungry, try drinking 8 ounces of water (or whatever).  You may well find that the "hunger" goes away.  If it returns a short while after drinking, then it probably is true hunger.

You don't drown by falling in the water. You drown by staying there.
