Please don't be mean here lol I'm asking for advice here.

I am confused by conflicting advice from what I read here from veterans and nutritionist and dr advice. They both say that I have to get a minimum of 1000 calories now. I see a lot of posters that struggle to get to 800 when they post their menus.

Im 4 weeks out and have no problem getting in close to 1000. My day usually consists of 4 pieces of crunchy bacon, 3 ounces of chicken and cheese melted on top for lunch and supper is 3.5 ounces of fish or steak cooked medium rare with green vegetable. It adds up to over 900 calories, 5 carbs and 50 fat grams And I do not eat until I feel full or stuffed ....I take my time and eat until I'm not empty. Do people have that much of a difference in pouch sizes? Or are there times that it just takes more to fill it up? Could it be that I'm so used to having a problem band choking me when I eat that I'm waiting on pain to feel done?

I know some are still just on Puree foods now but I've been allowed to chew since week 3 and had no trouble.

The only problem I ever had was getting sick on chili and nauseated from tuna every time I tried it .

My dr said what I'm eating is a good amount and just continue eating until I'm not empty, no snacking between meals , and no " white trash " flour, rice, pasta, sweets Ect

We try very hard to NOT be mean here.  You can get that on other boards, lol.

Each Dr's diet is different.  Some are on liquid or soft forever, some start real food very early. Some want 3 meals a day and that is it, my Dr wanted 6-8 meals a day at one month and always 4-5 a day for the rest of time.  My Dr did about 7-14 days of each different stage but I wasn't getting in 900-1000 for quite a while.  We were to measure in a measuring cup not with a scale because our NUT said our pouches had a volume, not a scale.  We were to do 1/4c, then work into 1/2c (1/4c protein, 1/4c non-starchy veggie or fruit).  Even with protein suppliments it didn't add up to 900 calories.

Sometimes folks don't have a clear full symptom in the beginning and have to measure to ensure they don't eat too much.  The pouch is kind of numb for some for a while and you think you are ok and one more bite and you are thinking you are going to die.  Some feel full, others sneeze, my nose runs.  go figure!!!

I can eat more some times than others.  I have to remind myself, even at almost 7 yrs out, it is not how much I can eat but how much I should eat.  I can get by on much less than I can eat.

I think it'll be an easy fix to swap out my bacon for boiled eggs and steak for fish and chicken .

It's strange how different the instructions are from the doctors.  My surgeon said I would need 2 protein supplements a day for the rest of my life in order to get the protein I need, and I find that to be true.  My RNY was 7/8/2008,   I can only eat about 3 oz. of protein at a time.  It does look like to me you are eating a lot for only 4 weeks out, but if your doctor thinks you're doing fine, I would go with his advice.

I get sick if I eat pasta or rice or if nI eat too fast.

I spread out my calories over the day and try to eat every 3 hours.

I think its terribly sad you had to start the post with "please dont be mean" because you've seen just how "not mean" this forum can be.... Its unfortunate :\

This forum used to be something completely different back in 2006/2007 when I was first here. Unfortunately, a new regime has come in.

I'd do what your doctor says and see if it works for you, then ask them. I'd take what people on here post as suggestions and input, but not the law, even though you'd be led to think it is and they all hold Ph D's

What "new regime"? Many of us who are 8+ years out we're here back in 2006 and 2007. The turnover on OH is generally quite high since most people come in shortly before their surgery, stick around to get help and support during the difficult first six months, and then leave as soon as they get close to their goal weight. Some of them come back when they're 2-3 years out because they are experiencing regain, but most of them never look back and don't bother to pay anything forward.

Yes, what people say here is usually based solely on what their surgeon's guidelines were, especially if they are still in the first 2 years post-op. Most of the true vets, though, base their comments more on what they have seen work and NOT work over the years than what their own surgeon told them do during the first couple of months.  Most of the vets have seen how different the eating plans are from one surgeon to another, and know that once you get beyond the first few weeks there are different paths to success... and MANY paths to failure... And they base their feedback on that.

p.s. Some of us do have PhDs...
