Too many calories?
Did anyone feel like their surgeon or nutritionist suggested too many calories too soon?
I feel like 1000 calories a day is too many for me. I expressed my concern but she assured me that limiting my intake too much would slow my healing. I tried yesterday, but unless I use my g-tube twice as often, I'm just too full to eat everything they want me to eat. (Still on full liquids) I got as much as 905 calories yesterday, but it was almost 10pm before I was done sipping and I just felt bloated and stuffed. I ate so much that I needed to nap twice, the full feeling put me to sleep.
Does anyone else think I'm eating too much too soon? How would you handle it?
Being honest, I didn't break 1000 calories a day pre-op, I just don't know that's it's reasonable for me to try to stuff myself yet. Do many of you eat that many calories a day even in maintenance?
I post my menus daily. Advice or opinions please.

I'm so glad to hear that. I'm so full it's almost painful. It just seems wrong.
Any suggestions how I get them to understand? My nutritionist is against going below 1000 calories a day. Despite the fact that I'm 4'11".

I don't think you will convince them, you just have to do what is best for you, based on how you feel.
I read many of the boards and even people on maintenance don't get that many calories.
I'm eating food not just liquid and typically get 700 -800 calories and anywhere from 70 - 100 grams of protein. I don't think I could eat 2 - 3 hundred more calories.
I had a follow up appointment yesterday and they want me to add more carbs. What I'm doing now seems to be working for me, I avoid carbs. All I really have is melba toast as a vessel for my protein!! I won't be adding carbs for a very long time.
My surgeons advice is the same as yours . I'm worried that I'm actually able to get that many in with no problem and just posted on the rny forum about it.

Oh by the same I mean 1000 calories....NOT SUGAR! And not eating past your comfort zone. He just said 1000 calories per day, no sugar no white trash and no snacking . Only 3 meals a day. No grazing in between meals unless it's drinking protein shakes

Your diet from the beginning seemed really wacky to me. I don't usually tell folks to ignore what their drs are saying but this time I think you need to really consider what you need to do for you.
We were told to NEVER eat (drink) past our comfort level. I bet we were around 5-600 calories when we were at your stage. I never had a g-tube and don't know anyone who has that didn't have serious problems that the Drs were dealing with, but no one that had one as a matter of course. At your stage, we were to get in 64 oz of fluids, 60-80g of protein and that was our only demands. NO SUGAR anything.
Once we started on stuff like cream soups and yogurt, 1/4c was the max for at least a month and that was after all the liquid stuff.
I do think she is pushing you to eat too much. Protein is important for healing but you can get 80g of protein in 400 calories if you chose the right protein.

At 10 months out I'm still eating between 600-800 calories. The weight loss slows WAY down toward goal, and I would never get the final few pounds off if I were eating more than 800. Nutritionists are all so different and so are the doctors they work for.
Do what you think is right for you, as long as you are getting enough protein, water and vitamins each day.
