Lap Band on 05/12/16

Hi  I'm Trish

I had my band placed 5/12/16. So i am still just getting started. I'm blessed with an awesome support team in RL with y family and friends but most have not had WLS so there are some things they just don't get or understand.

I am down 20 lbs from my heaviest 260 lb. I am down 4 lbs and 5 inches over all from my surgery.. Not bad for 9 days! If ya want a longer history I left the book for my profile, but i have always been a bigger girl.

So far my goals are a healthy weight (190 -170 As i have a big bone structure) and a smaller size I'm aiming for a size 8- 10, but I am a realist I may not get past a 12. I got big old baby birthing hips. LOL

I made it thru the first week of liquids and am on to the mushes... I'm running out of food ideas quick. Need to start thinking outside the box I guess.

SO does anyone have any advice on cooking or recommendations of cookbooks? I love to cook but I need healthier Ideas that will fit with my new life changes.

Does anyone have any positive experiences to share with the band?

Trish

Hi Trish, congratulations on your new life! The world according to egg face has a lot of great weight loss surgery recipes. Her ricotta bake is one of my favorites for the Mushies . A few go to items you may have already tried... Egg salad, ham salad, tuna salad, laughing cow cheese triangles, chicken salad.

I had a lap band placed in 2009, I was able to lose 100 lbs and maintain that weight, until last year. I began having problems with reflux and left shoulder pain. I was revised to rny may 3 and although you won't find many people that have had long term happiness with their band, I had a good 6 years and I went from 242 down to 142 . I don't wanna be a Debbie downer  so my best advice to you would be, please don't think your band needs to be so tight that it prevents you from eating good solid protein. My band was so tight because I thought for a long time that if I could eat, I didn't have enough restriction. I wish you good luck and long term success with your band! Sounds like your off to a great start.

You may find more band specific information on the lap band board.

Hi Trish and welcome.   I don't think we have anyone active on this board with a band right now but we have in the past and there could certainly be some lurkers that pop up.

For pureed, I just pureed anything I was cooking for my hubby.  Probably the very best was wonderful homemade chicken soup that my sister made and pureed for me.  I froze it in ice cube trays and took out a cube or 2 at a time to thaw, heat and eat.  I never got tired of that.
