Hoping to go home today.
Surgery was Monday. It went very well.
Unfortunately for me, I have so many drug allergies that I've been difficult to care for. Monday night the pain meds made me sick and I started to vomit. Started Tuesday off by vomiting after 1 sip of blue Gatorade. So they put me npo - nothing but ice chips. Surgeon, nurses and myself concluded it was the pain meds. Stopped taking them and changed to plain Tylenol. Wednesday went okay, but was in too much pain to get all of my fluids in. Thursday came and I felt good, just pain from incisions. Got up, drank two medicine cups of Gatorade within 5 minutes of each other and had my first dumping experience. Felt nauseous the entire day, so I earned another night in the hospital because I couldn't get all of my liquids in. Friday, followed protocol to the letter, sipped slowly, walked every hour and found a pain killer I'm not allergic to. So today, I should bust outta here! Fingers are crossed.
I hope everyone has a great weekend!!

Praying for you!!! I hope you get out today. I did much better once I got home. I'm shocked they gave you sugary Gatorade. The earlier out I was the more sensitive to sugar I was.
I was OK if I kept my serving under 8 grams of sugar. Sounds like you need to start really slow.

They make us drink the sugar kind to keep up calories. Generally, I dislike sweet drinks, so it's even more difficult for me.
As long as I space them out it doesn't bother me, I was just so happy to feel good that I wasn't careful. I learned a good lesson.
And yeah, I'm gonna take it slowly, this is so much harder than anyone expects. I honestly didn't expect it to be this hard to just drink an ounce of fuild.

Recovery can be a full time job and very difficult for some. Take it easy, sip, walk, rest, repeat. Slow is the key. Everything will happen in time.
Hope you are home now and doing better.

Hey there surgery buddy. I'm sorry I didn't see this sooner :(
I hope your weekend was good and that you're feeling Much better! How goes the sipping?
I also had to be all on sugar free, even directly after my surgery. I think they are pretty strict about keeping us from sugar right from the start.
Check in with us and let us know how you're doing!
