so I just spent an extra 20 minutes at the hospital while doing my pre testing .... Listening to everyone I come in contact with that I dont need weight loss surgery . The registrar actually told me " you don't need to do this because I weigh 30 lbs more than you " ... Ummm ok .

thanks for letting me just voice my frustration

OMG, I swear if one more person tells me that I'm not really fat, because they are X# of pounds heavier than me, I might have to throat punch them. Seriously, you're half a foot (or more) taller than me and weight 100# more than me, but that doesn't change the fact that I am morbidly obese!! ARGG!!!

Yep, I know how you feel.

The Registrar was out of line and should never have said that to you.

I do believe we've all heard that.  This is a very hard time to be hearing it because of all the changes you will be going through and the uncertainty of it all.  After my first few negative episodes I didn't tell anyone else.  Just my husband and I didn't even tell my Mom until the night before.

Next time someone says it say "My Doctor and I have agreed this is the best solution for me to regain my health and keep it".  or if you want to be snarky (which I can be) say "well obviously the Doctor thinks I need this or he wouldn't be doing the surgery"...

Good luck!

I had the same experience.  So annoying!  They don't know what our struggles have been, and maybe they are jealous because they haven't taken charge yet!  I do have to admit that sometimes I feel a little odd at the surgeons office when I'm in groups with people who have so much more to lose.  If they ask why I did the surgery (some do even there), I just tell them it was for health reasons.

As I was being wheeled in for surgery, the anesthesiologist told me I didn't look like I need the surgery.  REALLY?  That was a fine time to tell me! In a follow up appointment at the surgeon's office, one of the nurse's assistants was getting my info, and made some comment about herself that she hasn't had surgery because she hasn't given up yet.  So, I've been there.  Frankly, there are very few people I did tell.  I think some figured it out, but I don't talk about it.  I know at work people were ready to send meals when I toll a leave of absence for surgery!  LOL!  I had told a few of my colleagues who told them that I wouldn't want that!  I didn't look at the light weight forum before and during my weight loss.  I wish I had...I think it would have been helpful!

Ugh was the nurse implying that we've given up for taking control of our weight ...

Darn people can really say stupid things. I'm glad I found this board a few months ago as everyone was in my ear saying how silly it was to go to surgical measures when I just needed to get some self control.
