Hi guys, Im new and would love to have some new friends! I'm having sleeve surgery next week and the last few days have been a serious roller coaster of emotions. One second I'm good to go and the next I'm about to cancel surgery and try doing it on my own with a new plan. As of now I'm ok but I thought maybe some support would help me. The only ones that know about my surgery are my husband and parents.  I am 5'5 and 218 lbs I have to pay cash for surgery since I don't have  two co morbitities just mild ones.  Am I crazy for doing this? Advice and support would be much appreciated!

Hi and welcome!

You're not crazy and I think you've done well to keep your decision limited to close family at this point. Lightweights get grilled about being too small for WLS but then put down for being too fat, so what are we to do? Diets don't work! I'm glad you're here. Ask all the questions you can. Good luck!

nope, not crazy at all.  I have had many many surgeries and was very very ready but still had lingering questions about if this would work for me towards the end.  If you are like the rest of us, diets, been there, done that.  Lost it and gained back even more.

WLS isn't a magic bullet although when the weight is falling off in the beginning, you will think it is.  But they do surgery on our tummies not our minds and anyone can out eat any surgery so know that maintainance is tough and you will need support.  There are many who are grateful for their new tool and keep the weight off.  There are also many to think that is too much work and gain it back.  Plan now to be one of the ones who is determined to keep the weight off.

May you have a text book surgery and a boring recovery.  We are here if you need us.

Hey there.

I know just how you feel. my surgery date is about 2 weeks from now and I'm starting to get those thoughts.  Nothing extreme, like wanting to back out, just fear I guess? It never lasts long, a second or two really. I know why I'm here and I'm so happy I am. This group of people is amazing.

Welcome!

No craziness at all.  I had RNY nearly 8years ago and I have no regrets.  I'm considered a lightweight but I never felt that way.  I dieted for 35 years and was never successful in getting significant weight off.

The first year the weight falls off, but after that you have to eat healthy and watch your weight just like anyone else.  I wish that fact had been stressed to me.  I thought once I lost the weight I would never gain it back.  My thinking was the surgery would keep me from gaining, but it doesn't work that way.  I lost 70 lbs. and have regained a few lbs., but I'm much healthier and happier that when I was carrying around that 70 lbs.  I'm working on taking off the regain.

You will be fine.  Think positive.  Good luck.

Been there! I had an RNY and I started at 216. I'm now 156 and only 5.5 months out. Best decision I have ever made! I don't regret one second of it. I needed this tool. It works and I feel great! This morning I was playing tag with my 5 yr old...and could keep up. Those moments outweigh everything. I was nervous as well.bim pretty sure that's human nature. I'm also no longer on diabetes meds! Good luck!

Oh that's so good to hear thank you for sharing!! I would love to say I'm completely confident in this decision but everything is making me want to run. I've never been this scared in my life! :(

I'm only one month out, but I'm so happy I did this after 40 years of up and down weight.  I was scared and having second thoughts right before but realized that if I didn't do it I would just continue on the way I had and probably die earlier than I should due to high blood pressure.  Surgery ended up not being anywhere near as big a deal as I thought it would be.  Now that I am starting to eat more solid food - how amazing to be full after 1 ounce of chicken!  I know that after the honeymoon period, pouring maintenance, I will still have to work at it, but I'm hoping my sleeve is that one last thing I need to stay where I belong.

in other words, you won't regret it!
