WARNING TO SELF AND TO ANYONE WHO WILL LISTEN!!! AVOID 'BAD' CARBS AT ALL COSTS!!! THEY ARE ADDICTING!! THEY WILL SLOW DOWN YOUR WEIGHT LOSS DURING THE LOSING STAGE (and you won't even notice)!! THEY WILL MAKE THE SCALE GO UP AFTER THE HONEYMOON PERIOD IS OVER.
Success in Maintenance starts with GOOD CHOICES during the Honeymoon Period.
I feel I need to repeat this: I am a FIRM believer in Good Whey Protein Drinks!!!!! I have IC (Irritable Bladder Syndrome) and I can only have them while I'm not having a flare up. It is sooooo much harder to do Maintenance without them!
Happy Monday!!!! I'm leaving Thurs eve for vacation so if you don't see M&M posted while I'm gone please feel free to start it. I won't be bac****il May 2nd.

Hi Roz,
I am a slacker....and need to get back on board AGAIN!!! I wonder why I keep doing this to myself. I can honestly say this year has been a struggle for me, I don't know if it is because we had so many changes or what.
Hope you have a fun trip to Florida.

I do so much better when I post!!! You did have a lot of changes this year.
I think DH is going to struggle when he retires but I'm Praying he loves it. His company offered a really great retirement packages so he really didn't have a choice. Too much money and covered insurance to pass it up. They will let him know on the 25th what day he is allowed to retire. We will be in FL so he's hoping they will tell him over the phone. We are hoping for next month or at least June because he will do better being able to work/play outside. I hope the girls don't take advantage of him though....LOL.
We are looking forward to FL. The son-in-laws are going this year so that will take a lot of stress off of us. It was hard last year with the newborn and then 4 grandkids who wanted to swim etc. Grandpa had a lot on his shoulders.
Sounds Good!

Just curious, do y'all track calories, too? Or just protein and carbs? I have seen different thoughts on this and thought I would ask!

Have stopped losing pounds but am losing inches!
I track protein to make sure I'm getting enough and carbs (when I really serious) to make sure I'm not getting too many. Calories are pretty useless if you're low carbing and eating a lot of protein and fat.

These days I really don't track anything although I probably should. I know if I do my protein coffee, 2 drinks during the day and a shake after supper, I am getting my protein. I keep my carbs low (except for the occasional splurge) no bread pasta, etc. I do allow myself beans of all variety, an occasional low carb wrap or pita, oatmeal and an apple or grapefruit. When my blueberries and blackberries are in, I do eat those. I'm not very creative with my meals. Tends to be same old same old, kind of like keeping on keeping on.

I had the RNY so I don't know what your requirements are for your surgery type. I made up my mind early out that I would never count calories or points ever again. I did not think of this as a diet but as Change that was going to be for life.
I've never counted calories after WLS. I would check them every once in awhile on one of the food menu sites out of curiosity but I didn't base my meals on them. I knew I had a Protein total that I had to reach so during the losing stage I drank 4 "Good" Whey Protein drinks a day. Since I knew how much Protein was in each drink there was nothing to keep track of.
I based my meals on Protein like meat, cheese and beans. I snacked on Protein like jerky, eggs and nuts.
Accept for Saltine crackers with my Laughing Cow Light Swiss cheese spread I ate very few "bad"carbs like bread, potatoes, rice, pasta etc.
I enjoyed fruit every once in awhile but I noticed my scales didn't move as quickly so I limited them. They have lots of sugar in them which makes me crave more.
I've been on Maintenance over 6 years and my menus haven't changed much. I have cut my Protein drinks down to 2 a day but still base most of my meals on protein. I rarely eat more than a couple bites of mashed potatoes, pasta rice etc. If want "bad" carbs I usually plan them. I was craving potato chips a week or so ago so I bought a small bag of kettle chips which is my favorite and saved them until I had time to really sit down and enjoy them.
I seldom ever feel deprived. If I want a bite of a cupcake or a couple of fries I've found that it takes a small amount to satisfy me but if I wait and crave them then I can get out of control.
