Weight Loss at 9 Days Post-Op?
I was kind of discouraged at my post-op visit yesterday to find out that I had only lost 5 pounds in the first 9 days. I had lost almost 35 pounds pre-op (5 in the last week). I'm following all the rules and consuming an average of 315 calories per day (on a "blended" diet).
Is this normal/expected for lightweights?

Hi Liz,
I just discovered this site and signed up today because I wanted to respond to you. We had our surgeries the same day. I weighed in at the hospital on the day of surgery at 287. I came home 2 days later, weighed myself and was at 295! I was so confused. Well I spoke to the nurse at the office and read more of my documentation and they advised me that the IV's from the hospital will put weight on you. It's possible that you may just still be carrying add'l weight from the IV's. I say give it about another week or so and you'll start losing again. I weighed in yesterday and had loss the IV weight but only 9lbs from my day of surgery. So it really was just about waiting. Also, I wasn't getting my fluids in like I should have been at first. I recently started pushing myself to drink my water and I think its helping to flush out the IV's. Hope this helps! Good Luck on your journey!
Mia
You really can't compare yourself to all those heavy weights who lose 20 lbs the first week. And they are right, all that IV stuff really slows down stuff in the beginning.
Get your protein in, get your fluid in and you will be fine.

I lost 20 lbs in the first 10 days, which turned out to be a bad thing...four days later I was in the ER being diagnose with a strep infection in an abcess in my back. The infection was using up my body's resources at a time when I really needed them for myself. I was in there for almost a week on IV antibiotics.
The main thing is are you healing? Is the overall trend of your weight going down? Yes it is, hooray!! :)
I am in the same boat. I lost 10 lbs in 3 days before surgery on the liver reduction diet. I am 6 days post op and I've gone from 16 lb loss (2 days post op) back to 10 lb loss. I think I will just quit weighing for now. I am certainly still bloated, but not consuming enough to gain weight so there must be an explanation. I will just wait for the big one!!!
Good luck.
