WARNING TO SELF AND TO ANYONE WHO WILL LISTEN!!! AVOID 'BAD' CARBS AT ALL COSTS!!! THEY ARE ADDICTING!! THEY WILL SLOW DOWN YOUR WEIGHT LOSS DURING THE LOSING STAGE (and you won't even notice)!! THEY WILL MAKE THE SCALE GO UP AFTER THE HONEYMOON PERIOD IS OVER.

Success in Maintenance starts with GOOD CHOICES during the Honeymoon Period.

I feel I need to repeat this: I am a FIRM believer in Good Whey Protein Drinks!!!!! I have IC (Irritable Bladder Syndrome) and I can only have them while I'm not having a flare up. It is sooooo much harder to do Maintenance without them!

WOW...Friday again and next weekends Easter!!!  I have to get ready for the Easter Egg Hunt!  Tons of eggs to fill and baskets to buy for!!!

I've been thinking about your menus. Maybe with the VSG you have better absorption than I do with the RNY so you don't need as much "Good" Protein.  My thinking is that Protein burns fat so I need all the help I can get...LOL.

Sounds Good!!

One of the benefits of VSG is that there are less absorption problems compared to RNY. The greater curvature of the stomach was removed, 80% of my stomach. I have to take vitamins but they can be regular multivitamins, not specially formulated ones for bariatric patients.  It's a restrictive surgery only, no rerouting of the intestines, the digestive track is intact.  Genepro, Premier and Atkins are my primary sources of whey protein. My new tummy, affectionately named Beast, holds about 4 ounces of food at a time.

I've been in contact with nutritionists and bariatric surgeons *****commend a vegetarian and vegan lifestyle pre and post VSG surgery.  Although I am not perfectly following their guidelines I am close most days of the week.  I try to stick with whole foods and nutritious snacks.  Many of the snack bars are not considered whole foods and none of the experts like for me to supplement with them, but sometimes I just don't want a meal and I will eat a protein bar or "health food" bar.

The experts I've consulted with are stressing balanced, complete nutrition whi*****ludes lots of vegetables and fruit, limited meat - preferably fish or chicken - and Genepro protein powder.  They recommend eating vegetables first, which is directly opposite of what most WLS patients are told.  They also stress a lot of water.  I have problems getting in 2 quarts of liquid a day but some days are better than others.

The weight comes off slower with this method which gives the body time to adjust but the added nutritional value of eating mostly fruits and vegetables is what changes and lowers the body's set point for metabolism and weight maintenance.  Honestly there are days when I wish that the weight would fall off like I read it is happening for other folks, but each body is different. Plus I was told that since my starting weight was under 200 pounds and I have less than 100 pounds to lose the weight loss would take longer because the body doesn't release it fast under those cir****tances.

You would think with all the vegetables and fiber in my diet I would not have constipation but unfortunately that is a main problem for me.  Sorry for too much information.
