tired of being tired

You really only need the vitamin C for large doses of iron you'd get in a supplement.

An iron pill might have 25 to 65 mg of iron in it. 3 ounces of beef, about all you might eat now, has 2 to 4 mg of iron. Not much. So if the calcium supplement you take with your meal blocks the absorption of those 2-4 mg of iron, it's not too big a deal.

Hi Price

I too am "tired".  I just had my labs done last Friday (from my PCP) and want to know what my iron/b12/D3/calcium etc is so I can also try to figure it out.  I wasn't sure if maybe it was just the winter blues, but I don't think so.

Good luck with your iron - I hate taking it so that's probably what my issue is too.

I have avoided it because of the potential constipation but no more.  I will need to figure a second time each day to fit it in and try to get this up.  Hope yours is something easy (as if anything ever is).

I find the Proferrin doesn't constipate me.  In fact it does the "other".

I did get a script from my Dr for the Proferrin and the cost was outrageous - I bought it from Vitalady for MUCH less.  (this was a LONG time ago too).

This is what I take iron- ferrous gluconate 27 mg, along with Vitamin C and an hour apart from everything else.  Mine is over the counter my surgeon said just make sure it was ferrous gluconate.  I was having issues with constipation from iron.  This is suppose to be easier on the body but I can't tell much difference.

hope you feel better soon!

Linda

this "easy iron" is ferrous Bis-Glycinate.  It has C, B-12 and Folic acid.  I wonder if that is the same thing?

Anything with ferrous in the name will cause constipation and stomach upset. These include ferrous sulfate, ferrous gluconate, etc. They have a lot of other stuff in them. A 325 mg tablet will only have about 65 mg of elemental iron.

Carbonyl iron and heme iron won't constipate or cause upset stomach. And a 25 mg tablet of carbonyl iron has 25 mg of elemental iron. No fillers, so it's tiny compared  to the ferrous salts.

I have no idea.  I took a picture of a bottle someone told me about and asked about it and he recommended it so I took it to my pharmacy and they ordered it for me.

I'm sorry you are feeling tired Price!!  I'm no help when it comes to vitamins, iron, etc but it sounds like you might have a few options.
