Surgery almost 1 wk ago
Hi all!
Thank you for the encouragement to those that answered my previous post!
I'm doing better pain wise but am so extremely dizzy.... I worry going down the stairs sometimes (so only do it when I'm not overly dizzy). I'll be alright, I know that, in the meantime I have to keep plugging away at it!
1wk f/u is this Wednesday. I work in a clinic that is part of the hospital where I had my surgery (and where I have follow-up), so I plan on popping by to say hello to some coworkers - they've been very supportive. I've usually weighed myself on a particular scale in the clinic so I'll do the same on Wednesday, have some numbers I can compare vs. unreliable home scale that I wasn't using too regularly.
Still not up to my full fluid intake yet but trying to get there. Full fluids, but started some frozen mango and peaches yesterday (no skins) that I let melt in my mouth and mash into oblivion with my teeth.
If I'm not too dizzy in the next few hours I'm going to try to make and eat+freeze some soups for my pureed diet. Had a nice long walk at the grocery store yesterday with DH to get a whole bunch of fresh veggies/fruit, some frozen veggies/fruit, some other recommended foods for pureed recipe suggestions, and although I was dizzy the whole time we were out I enjoyed the crisp fresh air.
I hope you're all doing well!

What do you think the dizziness is from? Not eating, pain meds, lack of sleep??
I remember warm liquids went down and tasted a lot better than cold ones. I pureed everything. I was surprised how disgusting pureed meat looked but it tasted so good. I ate a lot of soup.
I didn't eat fruit early out. Way too much sugar for those of us who had an RNY. I heard horror stories about dumping on sugar but that's why I chose that WLS. I love sweets and I still get the shakes if I over do it so I'm thankful my tool is still working at 7+ years out.

God is walking with me every step of the way. Because of HIM this is possible!!

I think it's not enough fluids, not enough calories, and I stopped a medication I don't feel helps me (and it's one you're supposed to taper off, nothing dangerous happens if you just stop it but you feel yucky - dizziness, nausea).
I've been sleeping ok the last couple of nights and needing a lot less in terms of pain meds.
The meds were to prevent migraines and I should have tapered prior to the surgery but a) too much other stuff work-wise on my mind in the days leading up to the surgery, the last 2 months have been extremely busy for me, b) didn't think of it, and c) since I don't feel the medication is working in preventing my migraines I don't want to waste what little real estate there is in my stomach on the liquid drug twice a day. If the dizziness is a side effect from stopping that medication it should pass over the next week. Really though, if it were from the medication I would have expected it to start earlier than it did rather than close to the weekend.
I'm ok with the fruit, I like the coolness of it (and I do like the warmth of soup). Luckily I have my pylorus (sphincter at the anatomical stomach outlet) so although dumping syndrome is possible it is less likely. And I do know what you mean about the calories, but I'm getting so little right now I feel ok making it up with some fruit (like... 3 small pieces of mango at a time at best); was actually the only thing that managed to make my headache go away yesterday (not a migraine). Headache started before I ever tried the fruit, I was trying to fill up on calories with my protein but it wasn't enough.
I will not be having too much fruit in the future, worry not. I won't mess up the opportunity I have with WLS to drop the weight.

Not sure about the dizziness. I didn't have any of that. I did get a little light headed as my blood pressure dropped and they were taking me off the meds.
Keep working on the fluids, then on your protein. Keeping your protein level up will help you heal and keep some hair.
