ONE MONTH POST OP TOMORROW
I have lost a total of 16 pounds since surgery. I'm a little worried. I see on a lot of people's posts that they lost the most the first month and I'm worried that only losing 16 pounds is a sign that I won't be successful. I had a very hard time getting protein and water in the first couple of weeks but I seem to have myself into a routine now where I am getting 70 g of protein and close to 64 ounces of water a day. I'm not hungry at all and have to force myself to eat. I started out 220 in November 2014 and lost 21 pounds and weighed 199 the morning of surgery on 8/26/15. I'm walking for exercise but haven't had much energy since surgery to do much more. I go for my 1 month check up Thursday. Am I just worrying needlessly?
It sounds like you did Awesome during your pre surgery stage...Congrats! 16 pounds is a Great number but losing so much before would definitely hinder the big numbers right after WLS! I'm sure you are right on track! It's not about how many per month it's all about steady losses. Don't get me wrong you will have stalls along the way so don't get discouraged when that happens. Those stalls are just your body taking a rest so don't let them upset you.
I bet your Surgeon will be happy at your 1 month appt.!
Are you drinking Whey Protein Shakes to get to that 70g? If not I would try to include some. Our bodies don't absorb a lot of food proteins.
As you increase you calories I would really like to see you add another Protein Drink. #1 It absorbs faster than food Proteins which will help with energy etc. and #2 it increases your fluid intake. Up until the last 2 years when I was diagnosed with IC I had at least 3 Protein Shakes a day which totaled over 100 grams a day. Since I got the Protein total I needed I didn't even count my Proteins from the food I ate. I hated keeping track of totals because it reminded me to much of a diet and WW.

You are doing terrific!! I'm sure your Dr will be pleased. If you haven't found it yet, on this site under "more" at the top is a post surgery calculator. Any time I thought I was very slow, I checked there and I was always on track. I found it very supportive!!
Also remember for us, it is not total # of pounds but % of excess weight lost. When we see our heavier friends having lost 40# the first month that makes our loss seem insignificant but the % of excess weight is the same.
I didn't get my energy bac****il about 6 weeks. My D3 was low and I swear as it came up, so did my energy. After all, you had major surgery and are eating basically nothing.
Now you just keep on keeping on. And add more protein!!!

Thanks so much for telling me about post surgery calculator. I am right on the mark for one month. I feel so much better! I changed things up a bit today. I usually have a light and fit greek yogurt first thing in the morning. Today I drank a bottle of water then had a protein shake. I brought another two shakes with me to work. I'm going to try this for a while.
That is an awesome number! I had the VSG and I lost 17 pounds my first month. I think it is also good to realize you lost a good amount of weight before surgery so that also will contribute to your numbers. You are doing great! Don't worry about it because you are doing good. This is a marathon not a sprint !
