6 Year Check-Up

I know my six year anniversary was 8/3/2015, but I have just had my 6 year check up with my weight loss surgeon.

We went over my labs and he agreed with Gina that everything looked pretty good.  My cholesterol is up to 205.  My GYN wants me to go back on medicine, but I really don't want to.  My surgeon said if I thought I could get back to eating correctly and exercising like I was that he felt I could get it back down without the meds.  Especially since it came down after weight loss surgery.  I am going to try that first and have it checked again in 3 months.  My bone density came back with Osteopenia and my GYN had suggested I take something like Fosamax since I already take my calcium and other vitamins like I should.  I talked with the surgeon about this and he said if I needed to take something he would rather I take the shots if I could instead of the pills because the pills tend to sit in the pouch and have been known to cause ulcers.  He said if I had to take the pills due to the cost of the shots I should take it an then drink plenty of water to flu**** into the small intestines so it doesn't sit in the pouch.  He also said I might could wait and have another scan in two years and see how much it has changed if I wanted to.  I think I am going to wait and see what happens.

Now for the really bad part.  Last year at my appointment I was 130 pounds.  Thursday I was 143.5 of course I told them that this was at 1:15 right after lunch that I knew I had gained because I weigh every day but I did not realize most all of it had been in the last year.  He gave me a really good lecture that I needed and told me how far I had come and that 10 pounds a year would get me right back where I was before I had the surgery- I agree.  He really wants me to get below 140 and have 140 as my top of the line weight.  I told him I wanted to get to 130 and have 132 as my top.  He told me not to be unrealistic and it is a lot harder now to get back off, make smaller goals that I can reach.  Then he sent the Nut in to talk with me.  She was very helpful.  I explained that I do great during the day but my night time snacking right before bed is getting me.  She gave me some tips of things to do like drink something warm because it takes longer to drink it and that would take up some of my time.

I did tell them I am using protein drinks and they did not have a problem with this.

I am upset with myself because I have let myself get to this point, but it could be a lot worse.  I have started back exercising and eat really good during the day.  Maybe I just need to go to bed at 7:30 or 8:00pm....  I know I can get this back off.

Any suggestions, do you struggle with this also, what do you do.  I am having a cooking day today and cooking my proteins for next week so I won't have to think about what to eat for lunch or supper next week.

I know I do so much better when I stay connected here and post my food on Roz's Menus and Miles every day.

It IS amazing how easy it is to come on and how HARD it is to get off.  I know 134 seems to be my new norm and I really want to be in the 120s but I certainly have not been successful in getting there.

My cholesterol is up too, around 200 but neither my Dr or Cardiologist has even suggested going back on meds.  I'm glad because I really don't want to.

I also have osteopenia but no one seemed concerned about that either.  I have been really serious about my calcium since I found out.  My Dr just said everyone my age has it???  I am older than you but not decades?  I'm 66.

Hang in there and share what you learn for all of us doing the same.

AWE Linda I completely understand.  It's a constant battle making a decision not to stray away from Protein and eating things we know we shouldn't.  I've been trying to get 3 pounds off that I've gained and it's been a struggle. Carbs just seem to call my name.

I wondered from the beginning about whether the LW's that walked, ran and exercised would be able to keep off their weight if they got tired or couldn't find time to do those things.

Have you had any trouble with your sleep apena?  I wouldn't want to have to go back on meds/shots either so you know what you have to do. Just 1 day and 1 pound at a time.  You can do this!!!!!!!  Keep in mind you have to face your Dr. again. That always seem to help me.

No problems with sleep apnea.

Exercise is something that really helped me and I enjoyed it, just got so tied up in my job that last year that I didn't make time for it.  I am really working hard to get back in the habit because I feel so much better when I do it.

i do not want to do any medicine especially when it is my fault and I could avoid it.  It is a day at the time for me.

Great post, Linda.  I struggle with grazing especially since I started working from home. I think I'll try the hot liquids idea and see if that helps too.
