It's finally happened to me
I thought I was getting lucky and was possibly skipping the hair loss... But after about a week of all this extra shedding, I can't deny it anymore. I have been hit with the hair loss. I swear I am losing enough hair everyday to make a wig for a dang Barbie doll! My hair is pretty thin anyways(thanks kids!) so it really sucks to pull handfuls out in the shower.
My dietitian had told me pre op that if this happened post op to increase my protein or add zinc. I already get over 100gm of protein a day. I take a women's active multi vitamin everyday. I wonder if I should add zinc and biotin? I did just recently cut my hair and was thinking it looks like it is growing faster but then I started losing more too!
I LOVE the weight loss... not the hair loss!

My VSG is not until August 15, but I was just as worried about the hair loss as I am about the entire surgery Lol. I started taking 5000 mcg of Biotin last week....not long enough to see results thus far but it had awesome reviews. Got mine thru vitamin shoppe online, and the highest rated one was cheap. My surgeon recommends 5000-10000 mcg daily to not only combat the hair loss, but it actually speeds up your metabolism too :) good luck!!!
Thanks! I will pick some up soon then! I have always been worried, I had a friend that took it and broke out like crazy. Hopefully I don't have that same reaction!
Good luck on your upcoming VSG! I LOVE my sleeve!

Biotin is not going to prevent hair loss after surgery. It helps regrowth after the shedding has subsided. It also increased the hair on my face so I didn't take it very long.

Hate to break your bubble but I started biotin months before surgery and continued it for the first year or more. I kept my protein level up the whole time. I still lost hair. The hair you are losing now is from the first weeks after surgery. Biotin won't hurt you but it isn't going to stop the hair loss now. Mine did start late, about 6 month instead of 3 but it still happened. I even considered a wig at one point for meetings and such but never did it.
There was a little good news when it came to my hair. It had always, my entire 62 yrs been board straight. It came back with a curl. Still has a curl at 4 yrs. out. It is still thinner on top than it was but the curl helps conceal it some.

How long did yours fall out for? I think it is so weird how this works. I have had surgeries before, but never lost any extra hair unless you can count the hair you lose after pregnancies(both of mine were csections).
That's crazy that it came back with a curl!

Not sure but it lasted a while. I know cancer patients who have lost hair and it comes back in different. I think the loss is from the extreme change in calories, etc right after surgery. It just takes a while to show up.

My hair also came in with a little wave to it.

I started taking Biotin about 6 months before surgery and it didn't help. My hair wasn't real thick so I noticed the fallout the most in the front about 3 months after surgery. I did wear wigs for about 3 months. As a child I had very curly hair but over the years it had straightened. Now my hair is curly again. If I don't blow dry it, it will be pretty curly.
I still take Biotin and also use Nioxin shampoo and conditioner. The only problem with Biotin is it doesn't know to just grow hair on your head.
I was told the hair loss is due to the rapid weight loss.

Y'all have scared me away from biotin lol. I for sure do not want facial hair.. I have pcos so I luckily only suffer a little from that symptom.
