What is/was your goal weight? According to the BMI charts 120 would put me in the normal range, how did you come up with your goal weight? Doc hasn't mentioned anything, but would like me to be 150 by my 6th month visit, I guess I'll bring up the goal weight by then. My lowest adult weight prior to surgery was 178 and I'm 172 right now WOOHOO!!!!!!! cant wait to hit the 160's!!!

I set mine right in the middle of the normal range. The last few months were slow going. Congratulations and good luck!

My Dr really never said but said we hoped for 80% of excess weight lost.  I set mine original one for 140 because I thought from my years of dieting that I could possibly get there and stay there.  I breezed by it and kept going.  I listened to all these ladies here that said let your body decide. I ended up at 111 which really was too low, but rebound is real and I did rebound.  I would like to be in the 120s but currently am 130s.  According to BMI, I am overweight.  According to the body scans from the gym, I am under fat.  But even with that, 125-127 would be very nice I think.

My surgeon's office hasn't given me one.  I think that's pretty normal from what I've read.  I'm 5'3" and to stay clear of the overweight category, I'd need to be around 140.  Currently my goal weight is 150 only because I can't imagine being 150 - haven't been there since probably 7th grade!  Having said that, I think my second goal is 130 - this gets me out of the "overweight" category while also allows me a 10 lb window before hitting the "overweight" category again.

I have an appointment with my regular doc tomorrow, so I was going to get her input too.  My surgeon's office considers surgery a success as long as you lose at least 60% of excess weight.  If I use 130 as my ultimate goal number, I've already lost 65% of my excess weight (that feels nice to type).  I guess I'm a success in his eyes, but look forward to dropping more obviously.

Hitting the 170s is my short term goal and I hope to be in  THAT new number by Thursday!

My dr never discussed a goal with me either. I have picked 120 for me at this time. I may decided to go lower. I just don't know yet. 120 will put me in the upper middle of my range.

Congrats on hitting 172!! You will be in the 160s in no time!!!

Sounds like you are doing good!  If you could put your date and type of WLS in your signature or heading that would help us a lot.....

I picked my goal weight as 125 (75 lbs) just because I hit it at WW one time and it sounded good.  My surgeon said he would be happy if I lost 50 lbs.  I ended up dropping 97 lbs., started Maintenance too early and I have settled at 84 which puts me at 119.

I am curious what you mean by starting maintenance too early.  What do you mean?  Thanks so much. I'm learning....

I hope I can explain this so you understand.

During the losing stage I guess you feel a little like you are on an "easy" diet.  When you get towards the bottom of a normal BMI range and your body says that's enough and holds steady for awhile then it's time to start learning how to maintain your weight. You gradually increase your calories to see how many calories your body can consume and still stay within your range.  I guess that's what we consider "normal" and how we will eat the rest of our lives.

When my I hit my goal weight of 125 I was so excited.  To me that sounded perfect!  My losing started slowing down so I thought "I must be done"  It's time to start Maintenance.  I couldn't imagine that I could go any lower than that!!  I didn't want to increase my food (thank goodness) so I increased my calories through Good Protien Whey drinks and to my surprise I started losing again.

When I got to 106 every one kept telling me I was to too thin and after looking at some pictures I got a little scared and I decided on my own they were right so I increased my calories with food instead of listening to those Experienced Posters who kept saying go as low as you can because the 15 pound bounce back is crappy.

Once you start increasing your food it's to hard to go back. I gained 13 pounds bringing me up to 119 and I've held that weight for the last 5+ years.

In my eyes 112 was the perfect weight for me but once I started Maintenance my body didn't stop there. So I have 2 regrets #1 not listening to my body and rushing to eat more food and #2 not losing 3 more pounds so I could say I lost 100 lbs. and getting a gold apple for my signature.  I'm soooo jealous of those gold apples.....lol.

No matter what stage of WLS you are in you have to make GOOD decisions!  The #1 best decision is Low Carb and High "Good" Protein for the rest of your life!!!
