Hi All, just wondering if anyone else has gone into a revision surgery with a BMI of 33?

I was banded in 2009 and lost about 60 lbs and have maintained about 50ish off for the majority of the time. I have developed some really bad symptoms from the band and in 2 weeks I will be getting it removed and revising to the RNY.

I know everyone is different, but I am reading lots of people on the RNY forums saying they lost 60lbs in 4 months! I only have a weightloss goal of 50-60 total! Could I be at goal in that short time? Will it go slower for me because I have less to lose?

I'd love to hear from others about this! Are there other things I should consider or keep in mind going in at a smaller size?

  • High Weight before LapBand: 200 (2008)
  • High Weight before RNY: 160 (2015)
  • Lowest post-op weight: 110 (2016)
  • Maintenance Weight: 120 (2017-2019)
  • Battling Regain Weight: 135 (current)

Those folks who lost that much that quick may have had a couple of hundred to lose!!  You need to look at % of excess weight, not number of pounds.  That said, many LWs lose about 20 the first month then it starts to slow down.  You should be at goal in a year, probably before.  There is an estimator on this site so look around and put your numbers in and see.

Congrats on your revision.  I love my RNY and I bet you will too.

I've heard from others who had revisions that you will lose slower.  Folks who also lose quite a bit of weight prior to surgery can tend to lose slower too.  It doesn't mean you won't hit goal - but don't get discouraged if you're not losing 20 lbs the first month, etc.

I think there's a revision board here on OH too.  Not sure how active it is, but you might want to pop over there to see what others have to say.

Congratulations on your upcoming revision!!
