Wow. Here's some math for those numbers... 100 for 5 feet, then 5 for ea*****h, example = 110. That's the base weight nothing but muscle, skin, bones and organs. 300-110 = 190 which we'll call 100% fat lost... then get 75% of that = 142. 142 (142.5) is 75% lost. 300-142= approximately 157. for 5' 2"... or you can follow the BMI chart... ladies and age group added into the final number too. I am not a mathematician.

Welcome to the Lightweights board :)  You will find some real success stories here.  I am still a newbie, but I had lost 75% of my excess weight by 6 months.  I am at a normal weight now (9.5 months out) and almost at 100% extra weight loss.  If you follow the plan and make this your new lifestyle, you can do this.  Good luck to you!  xoxo

I echo what others have said about reaching goal.  I am just under 5 feet and had a BMI of 40 (204lb) at time of surgery.  I had RNY.  Got down to lowest weight of 114 (goal was 125 which would put me at BMI of 25).  Have had some re-gain (about 20b) but clearly due to change in my eating.  Have gotten back on track and am about 5lb from goal now.

It certainly can be done with RNY.  It would be a reasonable question to ask your surgeon, if low metabolism would make you better candidate for DS.  But given how little (relative) weight you have to lose, I would imagine RNY would work well for you with lower risk of complications (to my understanding).

Good luck!

Andrea.

Thanks for that! Sounds like you guys are really doing well!  That gives me hope! Im still feeling as impatient as ever, I want to start losing now! Well, I've lost a pound on my own in the last few days but I want to really start losing so I can start living! For now I'm taking notes of your menus and your accomplishments as well as struggles so I'm mentally prepared when this finally does happen. Thank you for your replies. Hope you all have a great day!

Welcome Caligirl!

Congrats on beginning your journey.

I did not have a choice, I could only have rny, and don't regret it at all. My type 2 diabetes is in remission, my fatty liver is gone, and no more high blood pressure.

Learn all you can now and get mentally prepared. Vitamins and protein will be your life long companions.

Regain is real, so learn the rules and stick to them. Hard lesson for me to learn 5 years later.

Thanks everyone! Karishka-I'm so happy to hear that you are happy with your sleeve. Congrats to all of you *****plied on your success! I did talk to my doctor and he said since I do not have diabetes and have a relatively small amount to lose, he still recommends the sleeve. Here's hoping it works! I also had my eval with the nutritionist and she said that at 172lbs, I can expect to lose 70% excess body weight which would put me at 134lbs. That would be ok but certainly not ideal. She also said 100% excess lost would put me at 118. That's better but since I read so much about regain I'd like to lose about 10 more pounds than that putting me at 108 for my lowest with the hope of maintaining at 118. I guess I am maybe just hoping for too much, being unrealistic. The nutritionist sure made it sound that way. But, hearing you all losing close to 100% EBW gives me hope anyway!

Anyway, thanks for the welcome. I will keep reading and preparing. Have a good day all!

I had some of the same concerns. 50-60% still put me at a higher weight than I wanted. At my 1 month post-op check my doctor set a goal weight of 137 which I was skeptical of reaching. . That would be a 100 lb weight loss. 60% puts me at 177 which I would not be happy about but 150 was my goal before talking to my doctor. After that meeting I changed my goal to 137 knowing that I would probably have a bounce back of 10-15 lbs which would put me around 150lbs. I'm 8 weeks post op and have lost 45lbs. As long as I keep with my program I'm confident I can reach 137. I'm determined to make the most out of my honeymoon period and lose as much weight as I can. Knowing that the regain is normal I'm not as worried as I think I would have been had I not heard everyone talk about it here. As long as I use the tools and knowledge I learn on the way I'm confident I can control my weight better than in the past.

Carpe Diem!
