Newbie - introducing myself
Hi, I'm new to the OH forum. I'm working through the bariatric program, and hoping to get a referral to the surgeon for RNY next month. I've been hitting the targets that the team set for me in terms of exercise, tracking food intake, monitoring my blood sugar, etc and I've been doing quite well. I've lost 14lbs total so far, and just hit ONEderland this morning at 199.5lbs.
I met with my GP last week about my Vitamin D levels (always a concern for Canadians) and she asked me if I was feeling ready, since things have really started moving quickly. I told her I was 75% excited and 25% terrified - she said, "Oh good. This is serious surgery. You should NEVER be less than 25% terrified."
Just wanted to say hello and to share my excitement on hitting a milestone today. It's been quite a few years since I was under 200lbs.

Hi Jenn & Welcome! Im still deficient on my Vit D...Its an issue Im working as well :-( But Im sure you'll do great. Just a caution, find out what weight your insurance requires you to be at. Some won't fund the surgery if your BMI drops below 35% w/ comorbidities (which you have , diabetes).
Good Luck and hope to hear more from you!
Hi! I'm covered by healthcare - Manitoba Health, in my case. My GP was quite specific in telling me that for me to lose enough weight to be removed from the program, it would have to be enough that I wouldn't really want the surgery anyway. It takes ages to get to the point of surgery, I was referred in May 2013, but once you're in and making the lifestyle changes, you're good to go.
I'm grateful not to have to worry about any of the insurance stress. I have a good friend in OK who was turned down by her insurance company and it was very upsetting. :(

Welcome to the LW board, the friendliest group on OH. Stick around, ask questions, we love newbee's and nothing is to silly or strange to ask. Looking forward to following your journey.
good for you trying to get your D up while you are pre-op. It is harder afterwards. I did 50,000 units a day for months to get mine up but I felt so much better once I did. I still do 2000 a day 4+ years post op.

How exciting for you to start your journey. The lightweights are an amazing group!
Funny about the vitamins d, I was always low pre op, but following the advice of some of our veterans, my levels have been perfect since about 6 months post op.
