Major Setback :(

Well I got some crappy news today. I'm two months post op and have been on "soft cooked" foods the last month. I still lost weight but I had some trouble with vomiting, and admittedly was attempting foods sooner than I should have.  I even let carbs sneak in once in awhile because I wanted to feel like a normal person.  It wasn't much but it was enough to cause concern.

Well that's come to bite me in the ass. Just when I was starting to feel like I could handle this, my surgeon has now kicked me back to liquids for the weekend and then back to puree for the next month.  Puree was gross. And the first time I did it I was safe at home in my recovery bubble.  Now I'm back out in the world and at work and just trying to be social and normal again, and I have this.

I know it's my own fault. I am sure that it is entirely necessary to get re-programmed. I am just so MAD at myself.  I made myself fat and my punishment is spending the rest of my life thinking about every bite I take and wondering if that one is too much. DAMMIT.

Hang in there :(  You can do this!  Try to mix it up a little... you can puree just about anything with a blender and some broth. :)  But I know how it feels to miss the chewing and the actual eating, so I am sorry you have another month of pureed foods. :(  Just make sure the foods you puree are high protein and no carb.  Have you checked out the website http://theworldaccordingtoeggface.blogspot.com/2007/08/pureed-foods.html she has a section on pureed foods. I hope this helps!! :)

The most delicious thing I had on purees was was turkey chili blended with lentils cooked in chicken broth. I added a little extra water and whizzed it on high in the blender. Good hot and cold.

I know this sounds like I think its easy...and I really know its not.  But try not to look at it not like punishment and instead think about it like you've been rewarded with an awesome opportunity.  I know easier said than done, right.  But the whole thing is a bunch of steps and the end result is amazing!!!!! youll love the outcome and cheating never works in your favor.  Im a good example of that, I did cheat and added a few, very few carbs into my diet last week on the three early days, not only did I not lose, I gained three pds back, then spent the rest of the week working to recover my weight loss so ended up the week right where I started.  This week I learned my lesson, and haven't slipped once, and the benefit is positive loss!

You too can do this!  Good luck!

My Dr group was really serious about compliance.  We were on a 4 week pre-op diet mainly to see if we were going to be compliant and that was after 6 months of classes no matter whether our insurance demanded or not.  After surgery, we went to classes for each diet phase change.  I think part of it was for our health after the surgery and part was to ensure we got the best possible start on the rest of our lives.

Truth is, you will have to think about every bite you take for the rest of your life.  Anyone can out eat any surgery.  Plus, they do surgery on our tummies, not on our heads.  WLS gives us a fighting chance.  It gives us a tool to use to lose it and keep it off but it isn't a magic bullet.

So follow your plan.  It the grand scheme of things, this is such a short time.  You have the rest of your life to lose your weight and keep it off.  You can do this.  Get your head straight.  Find an OA group if you need to.  Come here and get support.  You can do this!!!!  We are here to help.

I doubt you need the puree, it sounds like he wants you to have the discipline. I would guess if you tone things down a bit, you be fine. I also pushed my luck but lightened up when I needed to, mostly because your body will start to force you too.

Now, I still eat way too fast and have thick saliva a lot. I also have to just tone it down a notch.
