ANYONE like me?

I'm new to this, have date reserved for VGS May 18th, however still battling will it be worth it, I'm not THAT FAT.

I'm 5/3"

188 - 190 most days

Age 56

No other real factors other than I've been this weight for the better part of my adult life.

My husband says "go for it" but I don't think he realizes the change.  We eat our a LOT.  This is what we do for FUN.  He is not thin, and he loves to eat.

I know there are a lot of reasons (none good) to not do this... I'm worries that I'll pay $$$'s and then only lose enough to wear same clothes and no one will notice.

BTW- I'm curvy, very broad shoulders and hips, and then there are the boobs - as a 120 pound 20 year old I was 34D - 24- 34.  I don't expect to be a hanger... but... Now I'm still those dimensions just had inches....LOL

I don't know what I'm asking for... just thinking outloud and hoping that it resonates with someone who has a BMI of 32- 33 like me.

Very close to your starting point. I picked a malabsorptive surgery to help counter slow metabolism from yo-yo dieting my whole life. I was 52 when I had surgery. Welcome!

malabsorption surgery - like VGS?

Actually, the most common malabsorptive surgeries are RNY, also known as gastric bypass, and the duodenal switch or DS. Those are the major intestinal rerouting ones. Those have a restrictive component, like the band and VSG, and a malabsorption component. Some of us need a combo approach for long term success and for resolving whatever our comorbidity might be.

I was older and heavier but lots said "not fat enough for surgery".  RNY has been the best thing I ever did for myself.  No more comorbidities, I can lead my active livestyle, and I have been basically in the same clothes for 4 yrs.  6-8 is a lot better than 22-24.

Oh - believe me - folks WILL notice and you WILL lose weight if you stick to the program.  I also was "well endowed" throughout my life - and when I lost my weight, I also lost my "girls".  Don't be surprised if you do too...

I also was married to someone who loved to eat - I was ok with that - let him eat and I just sat and watched and thought "wow how can people eat so much" - lol.

I'm your height and maintained pretty much the same weight as you and yo-yo dieted throughout the years.  I was heavier when I had surgery because my weight just started skyrocketing.

If your husband is onboard with this - then he will embrace your lifestyle changes that comes along with it (I hope).

Im not sure you want to have the surgery?  Not criticizing, just asking if you have asked yourself the question as it sounds like you are unsure?  Before you go down this path try to feel like its something you want and not doing it just for those around you.  Do you have any comorbidities (ie health issues, diabetes, high blood pressure, cholesterol etc)?  Those could go away, and that's huge?

We eat out a lot also, and really that doesn't have to chg.  Just the way you order,  Ie, I get the appetizer a lot, ie we did Bonefish this weekend, and I got the ceviche seafood app (yumm and great for you), and the boys got their norm.  Or you just order something healthy and do a take home pkg, and you are set for the next meal or two also.

Good luck on your journey!

Yes I do and no I don't.

I know that makes no sense.  I'm a thinker, a processor.

I never thought surgery was possible because of my lower BMI.  My husband says "go for it, it'll make you happier."

I'm not miserable,  but I'm certainly UNHAPPY when I have to shop in the fat girls section.  I'm not happy when I see a photo of myself.

I've learned to use what I have, I had a friend say " you  dress well for someone your size"  ouch  But my hair and makeup are done, I wear clothes that flatter - not hide all the extra pounds, made easier because I am curvy.

I want to be 100%. I want to know I'll look different, my knees won't hurt, I won't be exhausted after walking for 30 minutes. I'll be healthier, maybe I'll even like to exercise.

I've been reading a lot - most for people are significantly bigger than those on the lightweight board.  SO I was looking for perspective.

As someone said, it's not a hair cut.. it won't grow back.  Thanks for letting me process.
