Hi, my surgery is on Tuesday, April 28th. I have only lost 7 pounds in 13 days. I was 206 and am now 199. I hope that is enough to have made the liver shrink! I also hope this isn't an indication of a future slow weight journey…if anyone has had a similar situation please do share. Thank you! Oh ya did I mention I am soooooooo nervous. Prayers r welcomed. Thanks again.

I was on optifast for 4 weeks for my pre-op diet.  I think we were suppose to lose 8% of excess weight which I think was 8 lbs for me.  It's been a while.  Anyway, I met their goal but no more.  So you are doing fine.  I wasn't a particularly slow loser, pretty normal FOR A LIGHTWEIGHT.  Don't worry about how fast or slow.  There is actually some thought that your skin is better if you lose slow.  And you have the rest of your life to maintain and believe me, losing is the easy part!!!

Here's to a text book surgery and a boring recovery.

Thanks so I am ok, Is it really hard to maintain? I am ready for the battle. I have a bad heart, and it will be ever so grateful for not having to work so hard.

I would love to tell you that maintenance is a breeze but it would be a lie.  Rebound is so easy and once you are tiny, it takes so few calories to keep you there and not gaining.  Exercise helps but you really, really have to make this a life long commitment.  Get your head straight, the operate on our tummies, not our heads.  Then stay accountable.  Look at Miles and Menus and other places where the vets here post.  It's how we stay accountable and stay where we want to be.  At least after surgery, we have a fighting chance because we have a tool to help us.  You can out eat any surgery, but you can also maintain.  It just takes work.

Sort of like AA. One day at a time. I am a foodie and chef so this should be interesting.

I  rarely cooked before surgery but now LOVE to experiment and find low-carb recipes.  Pinterest is a great place to find them, and I use it as well as a place to store my recipes.
