Hi From Lisa
Hi Everyone
My name is Lisa I have been on this site reading all the wonderful posts and helpful information that everybody has been posting and I just wanted to reach out to introduce myself I am having Gastric bypass surgery this Tuesday April 28 at Toronto western hospital and I wanted to know if anyone is having there surgery the same day? I also wanted to know if we are allowed Greek yogurt o% fat by source? I saw it has more protein then the other fat free sugar free yogurt I am asking for the first 2 weeks after surgery. I am really excited to be apart of this forum.
Best Wishes for everyone
Lisa
Welcome and good luck with your surgery! I love Greek yogurt and I use it because of the lower carbs and high protein content. I don't know if the 0% fat is as low carb as the higher fat content ones but it will have higher protein than the regular.

Greek yogurt is allowed when you get to that diet phase. Most, but certainly not all, will start you with at least a couple of days of liquids, then move you to soft or pureed. It is in that soft that they will introduce yogurt usually. I think I used the 0 fat but really don't remember. Your Dr should let you know what is on their approved list for each phase.
Congrats on your surgery. Here's to a textbook surgery and a boring recovery. I'll move down on the loser's bench to make room for you.

Welcome!! My plan did allow me to have yogurt in the first two weeks post. It was considered as part of my "full liquid" diet. I didn't really eat it though. I guess I was nervous about the consistency, so I just waited to really dive into trying it until I was released to pureed foods. I've tolerated it well so far.

I find I do a lot of comparisons with labels now. I did eat the 0%fat greek yogurt. I had RNY and was very sensitive to fat early out, so that worked for me. NOT the flavored, but the plain (flavored has a LOT of sugar in it). Yes, it tastes like glue but fortunately you can doctor it up. I'd mix SF jelly with it, also made SF cheesecake with it. Take SF cheesecake pudding, mix with the yogurt. I'd top it off with No Sugar Added cherry pie filling - and yum! That may be too much for the early phase but I'd think pureed it would be ok in as it is very smooth.

Welcome! Wishing you a speedy recovery! :)
You should be able to do yogurt when you reach the soft food phase of your diet. Greek yogurt does have more protein than regular yogurt, so it would be a great choice if you can tolerate it. Be careful with every new food you introduce to your body after surgery. Some people develop an intolerance for dairy. :/
