New Here
Hello everyone I'm new here and just started my 2 week pre-op diet. I will have the gastric sleeve surgery on May 7th. Any tips going forward would be much appreciated. I'm excited, nervous, worried, anxious a million things lol. Hoping to hear some feedback for tips going forward and what to expect. I'm worried about the gas pain from the procedure and trapped air.
I'll be 7 years out in July and I no regrets. The surgery did change my life. I'm more confident. I didn't have the gas pain but everyone is different. The first few days were rough and I was thinking maybe being fat wasn't so bad, but after that, all was well. It was so exciting to get on the scale and see the numbers drop.
I have regained a few lbs. and I'm working to take them off. After the first year, weight loss usually drops off and you have to work to maintain. I retired in 2012 and had maintained my weight, but about a year after retirement I signed up with a temp service. I was only taking short term assignments until last November. I was asked to return to an insurance company where I had worked as a temp. This was a 6 month assignment to end April 30th. Looks like it will be June 30th before it ends. I keep a stash of healthy snacks in my desk, but sometimes I eat too many of them. I don't eat a lot at meals, but those snacks slide right down. Those sliders added some lbs.
It's so important not to fall back into bad habits.
It's normal to be nervous. I certainly was. Just follow your doctor's orders and you will do fine.

Welcome! I'm 9 days post-op and feeling really great. As far as tips, I'd just say make as many of the lifestyle changes you can during your pre-op phase as it makes post-op so much easier. For instance, I eliminated most carbs, caffeine, etc. prior to the surgery. I also stopped drinking with my meals and waited the full hour after prior to the surgery. These changes were already part of my routine and it made the post-op easier (so far anyway).
I was expecting a lot of gas pain, but I must say I simply didn't have much. The first day I could feel it in my shoulders, but it was gone after that. I was up walking quickly after the procedure and kept doing laps in the hospital - I think it kept things moving easily enough.

I totally agree with the changes now instead of later. De caff, de carb, stop drinking with meals. Get a full set of labs so you will know if you need to play catch up on any vits/mins. Exercise. Being stronger will help you heal. Walking will help the gas if you have any. also, most dr will approve gas-x after surgery and that will help. Mine wasn't as bad as other surgeries so maybe you will be fine.
Good luck and let us know how we can help!!!

Welcome! I agree with taking the GasX for gas pain. Just remember to move move move! The more you move after surgery the faster the trapped air will leave your body. I had no trapped air after my surgery but I also walked as much as possible. I walked back and forth down the halls in hospital and from room to room in my home. Best of luck and again welcome to a whole new life for you :D
