I have surgery 4/21/15. I have spent most of my day reading all the posts on all the different forums. Now I'm freaking out about up coming surgery. All the regrets and all the horrible complications. Am I doing the right thing for me and my family?  Any encouragement would be great

I can't speak for everyone.  Yes, there are a very very few who have complications.  My only regret is that I didn't do it sooner.  I was 62 and had multiple surgeries but no complications and now have no meds and no diagnosis.  I got my life back and could not be happier.

If you have a good doctor who provides you with the education and guidance you need AND you do your part, there is no reason you can't be successful.

Thanks so much.  I feel a little better. My husband doesn't support my decision, so if something goes wrong I will never hear the end of it.

I have a husband who was not supportive either, but he couldn't be happier now!  He still thinks I could have done it without surgery, but I think he's finally coming around!  No complications...no problems...no more sleep apnea or high cholesterol....almost 6 months out!  Best of luck to you!!

I'm having the surgery on 4/27.  My husband was not totally onboard with the surgery either.  You should talk about it with him.  Find out why he thinks you should do it, chances are he is scared and doesn't understand.  I was really scared to about "I told you so".  He has come around and has started losing weight himself.  It feels like we are doing this together now. Ultimately you have to do this for you.   Goodluck

Thanks.  We fight about it alot my surgery is 9 days away. He took the time off work to be with me at the hospital for 2 days, so that's good.  I hope he will come around also, especially if it gets rid of my sleep apnea n snoring.

Same here... I'm 43 have diabetes and now hypertension.  I need to get off the roller coaster and take charge of my life before my life turns me into a grouchy old woman who's highlights of life are trips to the dialysis and local pharmacy.

Thanks for all the support.  I just have the sleep apnea and reflux.  Just hope it all goes away so I can live my life and not let my weight hold me back anymore

I read about a lot of complications, as they do happen, but very rarely do you ever hear someone say they wish they didn't do it.  So many issues are likely resolve due to the surgery, for me it was pre diabetes, high blood pressure, fatty liver, high cholesterol and those are all gone now.  The other thing with problems, is people post most about what is the most going on right now.  And the posted issues most likely go away, follow the posts... but if we do this right, hopefully we can maintain the weight loss well beyond the issue.

Good Luck with your decision!
