I'm really excited about up coming surgery, but pretty nervous and scared. Am I doing to right thing? I have heartburn and sleep apnea that I'm hoping to get rid of. Any advice or support would be great

I'm right there with you, my mind plays tricks on me and tries to rationalize why I shouldn't have the surgery.  I go back and forth with the pros and cons but in the end the fact that if I don't have this surgery now, 3-5 years down the line I will most likely be here again but by then maybe more co morbidity issues or worse.  So the pro's, for me at least, outweighs the cons.

So true I have wanted to do this for many years now.  Have always tried to do it on my own,  now I have committed to the surgery.  I still go back and forth if this is the right fix for me, so I hope it is

You will NOT regret it - trust me!  It is a big life change - but it will allow you to learn new eating habits so you're successful after your weight loss.

We all go through the "should I do it" worries.  It's very normal.

A few things to do before surgery:  Decarb (that takes about 3 days), stop drinking caffeine, start practicing taking itty bitty bites (seriously - I used a baby spoon after surgery), Chew Chew Chew, don't buy a lot of different protein drinks - your tastes WILL change.  Don't worry, they will go back to normal - but not for quite awhile.  Don't drink with your meals (I know - after surgery you're going to feel like you're constantly eating/drinking just get your fluids/protein in!).

Be sure to ask any and all questions you may have.

Good luck!

What Jody said!!!

I had RNY.  No more meds, no more CPAC, my only regret is that I didn't do it sooner.

At one of my group meetings my dietician said, your only real question after its done will be, "why didn't I do this sooner?"  Meaning, I could've had years being happier & healthier.  So true! energy levels are better, & health issues disappearing.  I so am syked to be on this ride!

Thanks everyone!  I have been on a liquid diet for today makes 7 days I have 7 left. No caffeine, no sugar, no carbonation. It's been ok I have had some moments for I want what my family is eating, but I have stuck through the liquids. My husband is very old school he thinks it's a waste of our money and I have lost weight before through dost and exercise. Why do I need surgery, but I am older now and I have acid reflux and sleep apnea.  I try to tell him it's too get rod of those things and the weight loss is a bonus. He will be watching me very close on what I'm eating and not eating anything I'm not suppose to have.  Sugar I loved you so much but we have to break up.
