newbie, worried
on 4/6/15 2:38 pm - Trinidad & Tobago
Hi, im a new member. Will be seeing the surgeon on Friday to hear if he will do the surgery for me. Im 32 years old, 213 pounds, 5' 2", and have sciatica pain. Also the orthopedic surgeon on looking at my x-ray said i have degenerative bone issues, hence he referred me to get the wls (sleeve). Ive struggled with my weight for years but no success except 15 pounds then i gained it back.
Im wondering about the excess skin after WLS. can anyone tell me about their skin after wls? Especially the boobs, sorry about the TMI.
Hi and welcome to the Lightweight Board!!
Whether you have excess skin (or not) can depend on several variables.
1. Your Age
2. How long you've been overweight
3. Skin elasticity
4. Genetics
I was 49 when I had my surgery and had been overweight/obese (off and on) from the birth of my first child until surgery. I did have a lot of hanging skin - on my belly, legs and my "girls" went away. I ALWAYS had nice ones... :( Now - I did have some PS too. I had a tummy tuck and a breast lift/breast augmentation. I have some bounce back weight that filled in the legs (not happy about that either).
Exercising to firm muscle can help a little as it will fill a little of the excess skin, but skin can't be firmed with exercise.
I remember when I was 35 I lost about 50 lbs and didn't have a skin issue - so you really don't know.
Good luck with your journey and glad you came here!

Me I'm 45 yrs old and have lost 33 so far, and for the most part my skin is adapting well, but Im just starting to see a little flabby skin on the back side of my upper arms...sigh, Ah well its worth it, and I wasn't wearing any sleeveless tops before WLS anyways ;-)
I lost 80 pounds on WW once and had no loose skin but I was 62 when I had RNY and I do have some skin issues. I won't do plastics and really my arms are the worse. No tank tops anywhere off my property. DH is ok with how I look and I do look pretty darn good in clothes. Better than fat anyday.
