6 days and counting!

This has been the longest 6 weeks on earth and the last 3 have gone by at a snails pace! I'm getting my masters and work fulltime so a couple of weeks ago I decided instead of hyper-focusing on April 14th I would focus on getting to Spring Break, which is this week, and then the next week is surgery. I did pretty good until today and had to call the doctor's office just to make sure they didn't forget. My patient coordinator chuckled and assured me my pre-op was still scheduled for Monday and surgery Tuesday. I'm using Spring Break to get a jump start on school. I will be off work for 3 weeks so I'll have time to get used to my new eating habits, get ahead with school, and check in with OH for support. I've learned a lot from reading posts from journaling with Roz' Menus & Miles to what to expect painwise post surgery. I'm even looking forward to the liquid diet, puree, soft food diet (we'll see how long my optimism lasts). There is still a little piece of me that is skeptical that WLS will work but I know if I follow the directions from my doctor, nutritionist, attend the support group through my doctor's program and stay connected with OH I will be in the best possible frame of mind to take advantage of the tools I've been gifted.

Carpe Diem!

It is hard waiting!!!  So I hope you have been decarb and decaf ing for the last few weeks.  Stop drinking with meals.  Realize you taste will likely change so have lots of options for you first few phases when everything taste too strong, too sweet, ect.  Order a bunch of samples from Unjury and Syntrax.  Get at least a small amount of unflavored protein, which still has a taste but just not vanilla, choco, etc.  It will be handy to put in food/liquid to up your protein.  Herb teas were great for me because I did warm better than cold and they helped me get my fluid in.

You are right, if you follow the program, it will work.  Now is the time in your life, even if you never have been before, to be a rule follower!!!

Congratulations on your upcoming surgery! Waiting is HARD!

It sounds like you're a planner - and that's a good thing!  You'll need to be planning your means for years to come to stay successive, along with all the other factors above you described.

Remember - this is major surgery so the first week or so you may not feel like doing a lot (including schoolwork).  Just try not to overdo it.

I didn't mind the various phases of diets, but I didn't have to stay on each of them long, so it was tolerable.

The one thing I will pass along is get used to chewing your food incessantly.  Chew Chew Chew into oblivion!  Put your fork down between each bite.  Eat slowly... Don't drink with meals either.  It really is a behavior modification way of life!

Welcome and I'm looking forward to sharing your journey
