Fainted at Target today
So embarrassing!
I truly am not sure why it happened. I was lightheaded the entire time I was there, and I suppose I should've grabbed some cheese or almonds or something. As I was standing in a very long line, I started to feel really woozy, and then I couldn't hear, tunnel vision, and next thing i know I'm trying to sit up and was on the floor. I was disoriented but luckily I had enough wits about me to turn down the candy and OJ they were offering me and asked for milk instead. I felt a little better, turned down the ambulance, and was able to check out LOL. After their lengthy incident report of course. They were super nice but I was mortified!
Here's what I ate today before going to Target:
protein hot chocolate mixed with fair life milk for breakfast.
half of a jimmy dean meat lovers bowl for lunch, minus the potatoes.
snack was 1/3 of a quest bar
When I got home I had one of my typical salads with lots of protein in it...turkey, egg, cheese.
I still don't feel so great, but definitely a lot better. Dinner planned is scallops.
Do you think this was RH? I don't think I was dehydrated. Had about 20 ounces of water before going out, but it was only 1 pm. Could be more, but not dehydration worthy. I'm confused as to what happened. It's a first for me!
Thanks for listening.
I have RH. My symptoms are in this order: thirst, hot flashes, disoreintation, shakiness.
I'm assuming you had RNY? I'm not sure how quickly RH can develop (and some folks have it pre-surgery) but mine didn't until I was about 2 years out. I have fainted from it - once. That was in the beginning of it when I didn't know what it was or how to manage it. When you pass out that's when it can be VERY dangerous (not just from the fall either). I like to drink a glass of milk to stabilize my sugar. I find that works fastest and best. Once my sugar is back up - I'm find and feel 100% again. Did you dump on the 1/3 quest bar? I find that one day a food won't bother me, the next it will. What is Fair Life milk?
I control mine with diet. I know what my triggers are and try go stay away from them. The are SIMPLE CARBS. Yep - a Burger King Croissanwich will do it, tortilla chips are the WORST! Of course one day it won't, next it will. Seems the farther out from surgery I get, the more sensitive I get with my RH too...
When I first read your post I thought it wasn't RH - but dehydration. You mentioned getting a lot of water before that, but I remember those times (about where you're at) when I would be very lightheaded and woozy. Food didn't help me and it was dehydration. Not sure if it's something our bodies just go through but it can be scary.
Keep an eye on it. I recommend buying a glucose test kit and if/when it happens test your blood sugar then. Practice first so you know how to do it. The Dr will run a blood test but won't be able to see at this point if it was sugar unless it consistently runs low (which he would have caught prior I would think).

Thanks for your response. Yes, I had RNY on 7/1/14. I did get hot/sweaty and shaky. I don't remember if I felt thirsty. I had a water bottle with me.
I didn't dump on the Quest bar, but if I eat more than 1/3 I do. I'm just not going to eat them anymore. They definitely don't agree with me for whatever reason. And no way I could eat a croissant, I totally would dump! Fair life milk is a new brand of milk. Has more protein and lactose free.

Thanks for your advice. I have been watching my diet carefully since and I've been fine. I think if it happens again, I will ask for a glucose test kit. And if I start to feel like that again, I'm going to sit down before I pass out LOL. I really didn't think I would since I never have, but there's always a first! Take care and I appreciate the detailed information!
Hopefully it was a one time deal. I had something similar happen in a Walmart. I left my cart and got to my car in time to eat some crackers and sit. It never happened again. I would discuss with a doctor.
