protein water
What is protein water? I love the idea of protein coffee and will try it tomorrow. I haven't had surgery yet. Still deciding and trying to prepare myself for it. It seems from reading the posts that it is hard to stay hydrated. Any suggestions? Also, how much protein are you suppose to have per day?
You can get this at Walgreens. http://www.walgreens.com/store/c/pro-nrg-flavored-hydrolyzed -protein-water-dietary-supplement-4-oz-bottle-berry/ID=prod6 177392-product
I am pre-surgery too. I find it difficult to get in the required 65g of protein per day. Be careful with the premixed shakes that are on the market because some of them are full of sugar. Read the labels to find out the amount of sugar/carbs per shake. I haven't tried any of the powdered protein yet, but I am going to try different kinds from this site. http://www.nashuanutrition.com/store/protein-powders/protein -powder-samples-1-serving.html They offer tons of flavors and brands in one serving samples. I've read a lot of people buy big containers of protein powder and then they don't like it and it sits in their pantry unused. So samples is the way for me to go. I'm kinda picky too about flavor and texture.
Best wishes!

I was thinking it was protein powder mixed with water instead of milk or milk substitute. I really don't like the premix stuff. I have used only powders from the beginning. I use Syntrax almost exclusively. They have lots of flavors that are fruity and mix fine with water, making what seems to me like a lighter drink that you can drink more of. It is also very low carb. They offer sample packets as does Unjury. Vitalady is going out of business so I'm not sure if you can still get samples from her but that used to be a great source.
In terms of how much protein, that depends on your Dr group and you. We started with 40g a day early out but quickly went to 60 then 80. Personally, I need over 100 to keep my labs where they need to me after RNY 4 yrs ago. Look on miles and menus and see what folks are eating to keep their protein up. for months your entire diet will be protein, then you will slowly add in some non-starch veggies and fruit.
Good luck on your decision. My surgery was 4+ years ago and my only regret is not doing it sooner.

I imagine height has something to do with how much protein you need but surgery type does also. And your labs will tell you if you are getting enough. RNY folks malabsorb protein along with the vits and mins so they need more. My Nut agrees that 100-130g is a good range for me to keep my labs good even after 4 yrs. I must be malabsorbing like crazy. And I am 4'11".

I tried Syntrax vanilla with my coffee this morning. It wasn't too bad. I think I could get use to it. I will have to try getting some sample packs and mixing them with water.
Thank all of you for the information. It sounds like you have to do protein shakes to be able to get in that much protein. Any other suggestions? I really don't like the taste of protein shakes that much. Do they make an unflavored protein mix? If so, has anyone tried it? Any other good ways to get protein other than the shakes?
I use 1 scoop of the Syntrax Cappuccino latte as my "coffee" then spike it with half scoop mint cookie to bump the protein level and use unsweet almond milk as a base. Really good.
Yes almost every brands of protein has an unflavored protein version, but it is the one "flavor" I haven't been able to use successfully yet. Others have been much more so, but I have a whole container of it taking up space in my kitchen...
Good Luck you'll get it soon!
Your "coffee" sounds delicious. I will try that one.
Are you saying that the unflavored protein has a taste to it? Does it not mix well with coffee or other ingredients?
unflavored just means not chocholate or vanilla, etc. it tastes like whey. It also makes liquids cloudy.
Protein water can be bought at the vitamin shoppe. It is clear like koolaid aid but has protein in it. The one mentioned from Walgreens is not the right kind of protein.
I think Kellogg's has a protein packet to add to water that makes protein water too.
