Help with head games
I had RNY at 62 and my only regret is not doing it sooner. Yeah, just tell them it is a decision you have made with your dr and usually that will shut them up. It is so worth it. Not a silver bullet but a tool you have to give you a fighting chance.

Hi!
I'm 4'11" and 185 pounds and I plan to have the VSG, maybe this summer or fall. The surgeon I had an initial consultation with said that a good weight for me would be 120 and that would be doable with VSG so that is only 65 pounds to shed. But that's a whole lot to shed and keep off, which I have lots of trouble doing. My own goal is even lower but I would be thrilled to maintain 120 pounds.
I don't have diabetes, which I've heard responds better to RNY, but I do have a couple of comorbidities. You have to do what you think is best for your health. I have steadfastly said no to WLS for several years, but I can't get below 175 on my own no matter how hard I try, so this is what I see as the last and only option. I'm a couple of years shy of 50 years old and I would like to live a long life. That won't happen if I stay obese.
Think it through, research, don't rush into anything. If it's right for you, then it's the right decision. You can't have the surgery for someone else, only for yourself. Your body, your choice, your success if you choose it.
Best wishes!

Thank you for your post. I have made my decision and have gone thru all the testing. Now it's just submitting to insurance and hoping it goes thru. My common sense knows this is the right thing to do but it's just such a drastic move and that's where I have my problem. The skepticism from certain family members is wrecking havoc with my mind.
