9 days out & energy low -- need feedback

Hi all,

So I am 9 days out, lost 15# so far and am cold more than my usual hot & sweaty (I prefer this!) but my energy is abysmal. I am a nurse who clocked well over 10000 steps a shift prior to surgery, always using the stairs. However, my energy has been so low sonce surgery. I have done something each day to get out of the house, made an outing yesterday to shop and only made it an hour before waning and getting sweaty on the forehead. So is this normal, abnormal, any suggestions? My 10 day check up is Tuesday and I intend to be back on light administrative duty by then. But am envisioning taking a lot of breaks!

Hi I am just 12 days out. My first week I was so low on energy...sleep a lot. As the days go by I seem to be picking up a little speed but not tons. Doing a little tires me out. The hubby and I did make it to two stores yesterday and then we drove about an hour away to a campground where we have a camper that we use all summer long. He wanted to get the cover off of it and take some wood up. I didn't do much there. Helped him guide the cover over is about it. Then I sit inside the camper until he was ready to roll again.

My NUT at my first week check up said it was normal and that the energy levels would be coming back up. She said getting the liquids in will help! I personally think getting the protein in can't hurt any either.

I'm 4 months post op. And trust me I totally know were you guys are coming from. I did nothing be complain I was cold and I still do to be honest. And sleeping all the time became my pass time. I would get up take my medicine that I needed to take.  And I would drink my breakfast and then sleep and then wake up and do it again. In the afternoon I would walk to the corner of my block come back in pain and relax. But after the first month and so I started picking my energy level up ans pushing myself a little harder each time. So give it some time you will get there. And good luck

I had my VSG on Tuesday and I haven't left the house since I got home. I probably could, but it's a lot more comfy to hang out here. I'm spending most of my time on the couch and focusing on getting everything in when I'm supposed to. I do get up and walk around the house for things, but I'm definitely tired. I think you're doing fine and that over time as our intake increases we'll get more energy.

You're doing everything right. It just takes time. I was the same way. I went back to work at two weeks and came home feeling like I'd done a thousand sit ups and ran a marathon. I walked around school so slowly! But, it does get better! I can honestly say that by six weeks I felt pretty good. Keep it up- there's light at the end of the tunnel.

Yep, you just had major surgery and it will take you a while to get better however......

What was your D3 level before surgery?  I really think my energy level came up as my D3 level came up.  the new recommendation is 70.

Are you taking your B12?  That can have a major impact on your energy level.

Are you getting your protein in?  You need to do it even if you have to hold your nose to drink it.  It will help with your energy, help you keep your hair and help you lose fat and not muscle.

Cold, yeah, that is part of it. Cold, hot, and everywhere in between with no reason.

It gets better, it really does.  Cut yourself a break, rest, take naps, go to bed early.  You need to get over major surgery.

I want to say, I think for me, I was 6 weeks before I started feeling something other than exhausted.  I went back to work after 4 weeks.

Make sure you're taking your vitamins (even after 6+ years I can tell if I miss my D3 and B12 for a few days) and get your fluids and protein in - and - just take it easy.

It took me about 4 weeks before I felt "normal" again and I wasn't even working at the time. I more trouble with my emotions than anything else though which was very strange for me.
